Default Switching to flat screen

We are going to finally upgrade from the tube tv and get a flat screen. We currently have dish network. Will there be any special cables we need to buy?

I dont like asking at the store they tend to sell you stuff you dont need.

If you have a regular dish box then get some good component cables. They support up to 720p. Even if you get a 1080i/p tv, most programs are only broadcast in 720.

If you have the HD box, then get the component cables. For the same reason above.

Sometime's they will give you the bracket if you say you found it at another store and it came with it.

well here is the general ladder of cables. HDMI - Component - RCA - Cable.

Getting anything more than component cables is pointless. If you have a standard box it is only displaying 480i. Even with a HDMI there is no advantage to be gained.

Components will be good because they display each color to the color pixel. In an RCA cable the video color is all mixed going to the TV. And cable is just bad

Just get an HDMI cable. Component cables are bulkier (3 different cables) and probably cost more than an HDMI cable.

Less than $3 shipped. I've been using that exact cable for over a year now.

Flat screen is a generic term often meaning a TV which has a picture tube that is flat, but hardly a thin TV. Places that sell TV's have returns because the buyer didn't realize many things. eg: no HD without a HD signal, they thought flat screen was the same as LCD or plasma, etc. Large plasma and LCD TV's are now available at amazing prices compared to 8 years ago. Plasma's can have the problem of ghosting...if you leave something like a video game screensaver on for a while. LCD's don't have that issue. While you don't need to have the highest resolution..get it!!! so you are ready for the near future. Otherwise you will have a slightly used one that you would have to purposefully exaggerate about to sell it to someone. I bought the top line Hitachi about 18 years ago...still works the same as then...have never adjusted the color...33 inch FLAT SCREEN with 90 degree corners via its' picture tube. The last made in CANADA Hitachi with a wooden cabinet despite being the then new monitor style. Cable-wise best to get advise on that directly from the seller as they should know the best regarding the particular TV model you buy. You should want multiple inputs including HDMI so you can hook a PC and most other things to it. Lots of TV's available now with unheard of company names...these are mostly Chinese...quality is questionable. Best Buy is apparently hurting right now...may be some deals to be had there.

Well I see that most of the questions are answered except one. What brand of TV are you looking at and how big are you going?

So as I figured..check this out..notice the deal on the 50 inch Samsung 3D plasma with Call of Duty:Black Ops (3d),..2 pairs of 3d glasses, etc for 900 bucks. Scroll down for many other choices at good pricing. For sure sticking to known brands is recommended...Panasonic,Sony,Hitachi,Samsung,Sharp ,etc.
