Default Good gas mileage on 2 wheels

I was wondering about the current offerings in the small displacement motorcycle/scooter class. You don't get better gas mileage than a small car with a 750-four. Then there is the cost of insurance based on engine displacement and such. You want to use a 2 wheeled vehicle for fuel economy you need to go small and single cylinder. A scooter has issues handling-wise due to the small wheels. Most small bikes are boring and cheap looking. BUT check this one out...from KTM of Austria...the 125 Duke. This 1st webpage has a bunch of big pictures of it. Notice it is liquid cooled, 4 stroke, DOHC, fuel injected, some LED lights(turn signals...maybe tail-light too) has good quality components (brakes and inverted front suspension) and it's great looking..better looking than their larger streetbikes I think including their superbike. Presumably it may be expensive for a 125 but what would you expect if you look at the other choices in this size. It should be capable of 80-90 mpg and check with any insurance company to see what something like this would cost to insure vs a large bike....probably save enough in the 1st year to pay for gas for several years! With the 1st link below you can go through the large sized pictures by clicking on next photo..or previous photo to the upper right of the picture.

Here is a HD promotional video on their Facebook site...well done but showing many other KTM bikes besides the little Duke.

And here is a link to KTM's international website. They also have ones for many countries like the U.S.A. or Canada.

Please note this model is new and soon to be sold..in 2011, so pricing and such may not be available yet.

A quick search showed me this dealer about 30 miles away. They sell Ducati's, KTM's and Vespa's.

http://www.apexcycle.ca/

I've got a 1978 Ducati 900SS (bought it new when I was 20). But for dreaming there is the Ducati V-4, a limited run of 200 I think for the road. The over 200 HP motor revs to over 15,000rpm and being a Desmo it has no valve springs..same as mine...there is a CLOSING rocker arm on each valve besides the usual opening one..valve float is impossible at high rpm's. All 200 were sold before the 1st one was made.
