Default Internet router

What brand and model of router that is good for under $150.00? I have cable internet. My family has a roku and Apple TV. 4 iPhones and 4 iPads and 4 laptops. They are not necessary all running at the same time. I would like to have one with extended range.

What kind of wireless router do you have and do you like it. My internet runs good and out of the blue it slows down for few minutes and picks back up. Contacted my cable company and they said nothing is wrong with their modem. They say it's my wireless router. So I'm looking to upgrade and I would like to have some advice from someone that knows more than I do.
Any help would be appreciated and it would keep my wife off my back.

I had a problem of my internet sagging at different times of the day and night. The engineer at Metronet, my internet provider(fiber optic) and he set me up with a new static IP address, problem solved.Haven't had a glitch since. What that means, if i understand correctly, that too many other households were sharing the standard IP address I had before, causing the sag. They set up the new static ip address on their end and with a tech on my end setting up my router. They did try 2 new routers, without improvement in my service.Good Luck!

Have you tried plugging an ethernet wire from your computer to router? The wireless aspect often sux, but the wired connection would be top speed. What wireless standard does your laptop's WiFi card support? If it's just "802.11g" then a modern "802.11ac" router won't help much. You can replace the wireless card in your laptop with an "802.11ac" WiFi card for more wireless speed. But wired is better (ie, Gigabit).
