Tablets anyone?
So I'm seriously thinking about entering the 21st century & get myself a tablet kinda device but I need some info....
Looking for something to get online over wifi, gotta check the forums.
Apps... like a youtube app, video player like vlc, expandable memory via micro sd for at least 32gb.
I'd like an screen big enough to actually be able to see videos & stuff, not just a "large phone" size.
It's gotta be affordable 'cause funds are limited
I'm not really an apple fanboy but what else is out there?

Those first 2 take Crapple off the list anyway.
There's a lit of stuff, but essentially 2 different OS's. Windows and Android.
I would personally go droid, Windows always seems to be buggy.
If you want cheap, buy one from Office Depot or Best Buy and get a good warranty plan on it.

x2 on Android. But test out different brands cuz they each have their own iteration of Android. Unless you get a Nexus (Google) device, it probably won't be stock Android. Samsung has always been good to me. You can always get a new launcher from the app marketplace to change the feel of the device anyway.
Avoid Best Buy unless you know someone that works there and will give you their employee discount. Your best bet for the best price is to find what you like in person and then order it online from Newegg or Amazon.

Re: Tablets anyone?
When my wife's mother upgraded her phone, Verizon offered a "free" tablet. (you have to sign up to pay $10 a month for 2 years on the plan). She did not need it as the 60+ woman already is in the 21st century. I took the opportunity to snag it up due to the fact I still rock a flip phone.
I have an Ellipsis 8<-click for more info. I love it. I use to carry an old police toughbook in the truck for email and more on the go. Now wherever I have verizon signal I have the net. Though most of the time I use hotspots over data.
Love the device, a geek buddy took a look under the hood and was impressed by the specs. Sure it will cost me $220 in service fees in the end....but not a bad price.
I put an otterbox and a glass screen on it, I have dropped it many times, gotten it damp and used it when working on the ranger ...... i hate to admit it but love it.
And of course, powered by android.
just my $0.02

I could care less about brand names, I just need something that works all the time. Ive switched all my personal stuff and business to Iphone and Ipads to see if there would be less problems. You couldn't pay me to switch back to android now.

Personally love my iPad. Super easy interface and don't have to worry about anything malware wise. Go onto 2 competitive electronics stores and compare warranties. Then find the size and storage capacity you want and compare a droid and apple and windows product for features. Such as camera quality, reliability, processor speed, battery life, ease of use, even repair costs. (Consumer reviews are where you'll learn a lot) then if the tablet you really want is too expensive new. Cruise CL and local for sale pages on FB. Resale values on these things aren't cheap so you could prolly find a steal for one that's just a year old.
But I definitely give the iPad 5 stars

Re: Tablets anyone?
Thanks for the input guys!
I do like my samsung phone but can't see spending $500 +/- on a 10" tablet.
I found THIS one at wally world.
Seems to have everything I'd like, 32gb onboard & looks to be able to handle 32gb microsd too.
I like the detachable keyboard too. Have to look into the hdmi cable to connect to a big screen sometime.
1gb of ram isn't too bad, i'd like to see 2gb but for the price i guess i can't complain.
The 2mp cameras aren't great & i can't seem to find any info if either has hd video recording which would be nice.
I know RCA isn't the RCA of years past so I know quality may be iffy but it's closer to what I might be able to afford right now.
I'm not set on this one but it's the first one i found.

Re: Tablets anyone?
If that's the price range you're looking for, then I'd suggest this search here: Newegg.
If you want more for your money, look at older models like this one. It will run an older version of Android, but you'll get better hardware for your price range. Until about a year ago I was still running Gingerbread (2.3) and had no issues with compatibility. I'm currently on Jellybean (4.3) and could move up to KitKat if I cared enough to.
If you really wanna save and don't want to worry about getting a bad brand this old Samsung is only $94 right now.
Like I said previously, check out Newegg for some great prices. There's always great deals going on too.
