Should I get a mac?

Been a pc guy since i was 8 lol. Now at age 24 and my college graduation in May, I have been tossing around the idea of buying myself a graduation present!

I have a Dell XPS with a terabyte of space and 4 gigs of memory...Needless to say, this baby purrs. But, its boring! I also have a hp notebook running windows 7, which works great but i would like to let my wife use it full time for school.

I have an ipod, but that is the extent of my apple experience. A lot of my friends have them and many people I edit video with use Macs. I've always used Adobe Premiere Pro on my Dell for video so I would be nervous, but excited about using a Mac for video...

Anyway, If I got one, i would want a notebook. I do not know what type of processor I would need or the options that work well or not so well for the macs. I want to customize one that will be great for internet, light gaming, and moderate video editing.

Is anyone familiar with these that can help me out?

Any input appreciated.

A mac is nothing more than a pc with all kinds of limitations, especially in the software dept.

The only thing a mac has over a pc is it overall looks like a kid's toy out of the box, which can be done with a pc too, at 1/4th the cost if that's what you really into.

i have a mac book pro and im on it every day. never turn it off keep it on sleep and it is as tuff as my ranger lol but yea it is a very very nice computer. i let my brother play world of war craft on it and its crystal clear! never lags. it has a LED light so the screen is always bright i have never had a problem with it! its a great computer that is just WOW factors all over it! the trac pad is my fav on it. i zoom in with 2 fingers and go back a page with a 3 finger swipe to the left or right. just amazing piece of technology. mine came with a free ipod touch. thats the summer time deal before school starts up. and you get students discount. a lot of money but its a great BUY!! never ever regret buying it

if you want to drop 2 g's on an overpriced hunk of metal go for it. but my 600 dollar hp dv6 does everything ive asked it to, wich includes downloading tons of movies and music and hardcore gaming, and i use it for schoolwork too (sometimes) hahah

macs have become prone to viruses so dont listen to the idiots at the apple store that tell you they arent.

smakes, thats kind of what I was thinking. My HP cost about 650 last year and have had 0 problems with it. I just wanted something different but when it comes down to it, all i really do is get on the internet haha. keep the opinions coming, i'm still deciding.

If all you wanna do is go on the net, a standard netbook is more than enough.

I have a macbook pro and i love it. They arent really good for gaming unless its an internet game, but the biggest thing for me is that they dont get viruses and im in university so its perfect for my needs.

I agree on the limitations of a mac. Every computer has its pro's and cons. I would suggest to keep the one you have, and buy a graduation present for your truck.

There's no pros when it comes to macs anymore, since they are all re-badged PCs now.

Paying 2+k for a 600$ laptop is an expensive way to avoid viruses (and miss out on games).

I'd suggest a good anti-virus program and avoidance of porn sites, lolz.

lol i said avoid.

there's just not as many viruses on macs, just as 1985 chevrolet cavaliers aren't interesting chop shops.

I rememeber not too long ago, before osx, when your mac crashed, you needed to format your hard drive, and it wasn't a rare thing, LOL.

I think I'm over it. Just too pricey. I wanna give my wife this laptop and buy a new pc for me!
