Re: Advanced Auto Coupon Codes
I just used the same 30% off coupon today at advance auto parts website and saved $15 on a couple of misc stuff I've been meaning to pick up. (upgraded battery terminals, carb cleaner, MAF cleaner, and a few tools) Just wanted to bump this thread and get this out there and viewed by as many people as possible because you really do save a lot of money doing this.
Ideal scenario on how to use these coupons. Go to advanced web site and add whatever you need to your cart. view your shopping cart and add the promo code. The page will update and show the discounted price and show how much your saving with the coupon. The best part is you can set it for in store pickup and have everything ready at your local store a half hour after you make the purchase online. The only thing that could make this system any better would be if they let you pay at the store when you pick the stuff up or if the local stores accepted the online coupons and discount stuff. Either way I have no complaints with this system, thanks again OP for turning me onto this!
As of 7/9/2014 here are current coupons that work.
(If you view this after 7/9 go to www.retailmenot.com and search advance for current coupons)
30% Off Sitewide (up to $50 in savings) TRT30
35% Off Orders Over $50 (expires 7/12/2014 WD28
$40 Off $100+ On Regular Priced Items + Free Shipping on orders over $75 TRT41
$10 Off $30, $25 Off $70, $40 Off $110+ Orders PC4U123
$20 Off $50 Sitewide TRT25
$50 Off $175 Sitewide + Free Shipping HUGE50
$30 Off $75 + Free Shipping TRT37
I also signed up for the referral system for the added discount they offer for new members. I did not read the whole fine print on it but they advertise any new members can get up to 40% of their order if they use the referral link. In the event you are interested in this option as well you can read the faqs on the refer a friend program. Both Links below

They suck. I work at autozone and I have a guy who's got records from 87 and swaps his shocks like every 6 months for free

Re: Advanced Auto Coupon Codes
I've had pretty good luck with Advance, though I usually split between them and O'Reilly. That being said, I have noticed that my auto parts store experience depends almost exclusively on location, not the logo on the front. Some stores just seem to hire the people who don't really know or care about anything. Others go out of their way to get the fun people who are really enthusiastic about auto maintenance and stuff. I see the extremes of each across all chains. So far, Autozone is the one that's produced the most of the bad kind. But hey, that's just for me. I forgive Autozone since their online vehicle repair stuff more than makes up for it.
The coupons and stuff are hardcore though. Just got some synthetic oil for a good chunk less than just buying in-store. Heck, with those discounts, I might have been able to beat the Walmart prices for the ATF from few weeks ago.
Oh, and to reference that earlier claim, I couldn't get them to price-match the outer tie rod ends I recently bought (half the price at Rock Auto). But, I also didn't push too hard for it since I wasn't in a hurry. It might be worth asking about in the future. There was another time when they accidentally sold me some spark plug wires that they didn't have. Their inventory said they had one Autolite set, but no Motorcraft, so I just bought the Autolite. The system was wrong, so they didn't have it either. Instead, they offered me the Motorcraft wires for pickup the next morning, price-matched to the cheaper Autolites to try making up for the inconvenience. That was pretty nice.
On that note, watch the inventory. Their staff usually knows better, but the computers love to lie to them. Seems to be a common issue. They should check before actually ringing it up, but do watch that. One more reason why buying online is cool.

Re: Advanced Auto Coupon Codes
Advance doesn't allow it's employees to price match online companies. They aren't even allowed to price match the company website. They literally have to tell the customer sorry, and make that customer go home and order it online, or just go to another parts store that will price match the website. When I did my 5-speed swap, I ordered everything on-line and saved a shit ton of money. The online discount beat the crap out of my associate discount every time. I'm surprised I never got in trouble for that since the company is so anti-customer savings at the store level.
Some Advance stores will go out of their way to help you, and some will even price match Walmart and Rock Auto because sales and getting the customer what they need are more important than shit rules made by corporate.
I worked there for a little over a year, and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. What was said about warranties and shitty inventory is completely true. And customers know it. I had plenty of on-line customers call me and ask to make sure we had it in stock before they wasted their time. I'm so glad I left that company.

Re: Advanced Auto Coupon Codes
I've had some of their employees joke about how much they hate that place. The understanding of how much of that is actually "joking" has kind of started to sink in. But hey, they still have all the other perks of a standard auto parts store. Free code checking, battery testing, etc. And the deals with online stuff are definitely noteworthy.
At the end of the day, I guess it's a trade-off of one type of convenience for another. The service is there if you're smart with it. This is why I flip-flop between multiple different stores and Internet. It scares me to think of how much money I could've saved overall if the resources I know of today had been in my arsenal this time last year.

Don't even get me started on code checking. I can't even tell you how many times my fellow associates played 1-2-3 not it when a customer needed their codes checked.

Can't say I blame them. Checking codes for the average joe sounds like a terrifying experience. I go out of my way to be quick and polite, but I can only imagine how most people treat it.

I had to dumb it down almost every time. One of the managers I had would just tell customers to take it to a shop.
