Default Free Oil change

Advance Auto Parts has a special running on Valvoline conventional oil and Valvoline NextGen conventional oil. If you buy the 5 quart jug and a store brand oil filter it's $19.97, you can upgrade to a Purolator classic filter for an extra $1 or a Purolator Premium for $2. The free part comes in here: they are offering a $20 American Express gift card on the purchase of the oil. So if you just buy the store brand filter all you really end up paying is the taxes. The gift card is a rebate but you can register for it online instead of mailing it in. The down side is that they are limiting it to one per household instead of one per person.

I also prefer synthetic, but conventional works perfectly fine in my wife's POS Kia. It's more about how clean the oil is than the type. Better to use cheaper conventional oil and change it regularly than to only use high dollar synthetic and do irregular or over-due changes. If I had a Porsche or Maserati I would stick to straight synthetic, but I have a Ranger and a Cherokee and all they care about is how clean the oil is.
