I got new to me rims (aluminum) and I removed the old tires and sand blasted the rims. I then cleaned them off and primed them. The primer looks amazing!!! I used rustoleum auto primer. Then let it sit for 24 hours. Then I roughed it up with some 200 grit sand paper a bit. Then I sprayed VHT wheel paint satin black. I did two light coats and then a final medium wet coat (as the instructions on the can stated) all ten minutes apart. Then the final finish as the paint dried ended up very gritty and looks terrible. The finish is almost like sand paper and its all blotchy. A guy I know said it may be a reaction between the rustoleum primer and vht paint. Input? Thoughts? Opinions? Only one rims is this way because I decided to see how it turned out.

I don't think it should the different brand name primer and paint should matter. The time in between coats sounds very short to me. I would do a total of 5 coats (3 light, 2 heavy) and a dry time of about an hour in between coats

Are the paints the same base, like oil or whatever base.?



Also I have the stock rims, aluminum alloy, off my 98 ranger for sale. They have road runner tires on them. 2 of them have good tread left, the other two are kinda shot.
Not sure what a good price for them is, but I put them on Craigslist for $150.
That's 4 aluminum rims and one steel one (spare with good tread)

I went down by the Minnesota river near my house. It wasn't really mud either. It was an extremely wet gravel road and parking areas that was kind of washed out. A lot of standing water and junk. It was still fun though
