I see your New Avatar Terry .. USS Long Beach (CGN 9)

Did you serve aboard her?

I help build USS Tarawa in 1971-1972 before moving on with engineering in Steel Industry.

She was the 1st built of this class and the only one to be re-outfitted several more times to broaden her capabilities.

Other LHA's after her were scrapped or used for Naval target practice.

She was decommissioned in 2009 after 33 Years of Service!

Did a few tweaks on Nuclear Subs (Classified No names allowed)

Also spent some time with Bender Shipbuilders in Mobile, Alabama around 1976-1979 with construction of Alaskan Crab Fishing Boats. I helped with modifications in length on 2 of these boats.

I built a model boat once, it sank on the first try. Needless to say navy ship building isn't a good career choice for me though. Thanks for keeping them above the sea... and below it, without killing them.

The King Ranch is an enormous piece of property. One thing I'd love to do is go on a hog hunt there some time.

Speaking of hunts, I shot 2 deer on Saturday....might put some pics up in a bit.

No, I didn't, but she is one of the most unique ships I have seen upclose. she was the last of the ships with actual wooden decking outside the skin of the ship. Also, the Long beach was in it's own "class" meaning no other ship will ever look like her.
she served from 1961-1995

I was the only one who had any real success up north out of our group....shot these two deer on Saturday. The buck was at about 9 AM and the small doe/large fawn was at about 2 pm. Both were with my Marlin .30-30 (pictured) at about 75-80 yards. We do all our own butchering, so they are sitting in my freezer right now ready for the crock pot.

Out of 3 guys, we saw exactly 6 deer in 5 days of hunting. We checked with all our friends and all the locals, and nobody was seeing ANYTHING. It's bizarre. I didn't even see any rubs or scrapes....
