the bracket and pin that secures the bed from tilting, broke and the bed tilted up and started walking back and forth, when i slowed down it went into the side of the truck.

i ordered a new panel patch for $60...going to get it fixed properly...

Ouch that sucks! At least it's just a damaged panel, could have been far worse. Reminded me of my own trailer woes a little while back....

That sucks! The trailer tongue folds as well? Must be just one bracket that keeps the bed from tilting and the tongue from folding?

No the bed tilts and rotates/swivels....

Well two body shops want to replace my whole bedside at $1800.
Two other body shops will just cut out the quarterpanel and weld in another, $700

I have a $500 deductible..so if i go the cheaper route i wont do an insurance claim.
But if i go the expensive route i will have to rebedline stuff..

What should i do?

Sounds to me that either way it'll roughly cost you $700 ( $700 to piece in patch panel/no claim, or brand new bedside at $500 plus $200 allowance to re-bedline). Is there any door dings or such in the bedside? Could it start to rust sooner where the patch panel is?

Wont your insurance go up if you make a claim? If so in the long run getting it fixed for 700 dollars is better.

Another thing to consider: Is your bed rusted? if so then you might as well get a new one.

If it was me I would just pound it out as good as you can, put the flare back on, and call er a day

yeah insurance may go up a tad, but i have never ever had a claim before.
And no, its not really rusted, its in pretty good shape over all.
