Futzed with the Bronco steering some more this morning. No longer convinced that I have the problem correctly diagnosed even after my supposed "aha!" moment with the upper steering bearing. I'm getting so disgusted with this thing I'm considering just taking the whole column out and putting a new one in.

Putting some serious thought into either

A) Ordering a used entire steering column off of Ebay ($100)

or

B) Going to U-pull and taking the column out of a Bronco they have there ($30 but a lot of dicking around)

I REALLY want this thing to be ready for the meet, but at this rate I have serious doubts.

Wow...first i would see if the local junkyard has one thats already been pulled...my local jy had one for my ranger already on the shelf..$75..from when i swapped in a column with tilt and cruise control.

Hmmm, you're right, it might be worth checking some used parts places to see if they've got one handy. It should be the same column as a first gen Ranger. I would even be willing to swap my tilt column for a non-tilt since I think the tilt mechanism is accounting for some of the shittyness of the steering in the first place.

East Bethel U-Pull has an 88 Bronco II they got in about 10 days ago....I'm hoping I could potentially rob the column out of that one if need be.

No pics of damage. Will need a new grill and driver side headlamp. Hit it only doing like 45mph. Its was a very small doe. Thought I just spun her around but she was laying in the middle of the road with a broken leg and neck. I had to use my revolver to put her down. I called it in and the sheriff told me just to drag the deer off the road and make a claim with insurance. The damage is so small I'm not gonna waste the time with the claim. A lady who lived close to where I hit it heard my gun shot and asked if everything was ok. Told her what had happened and if she wanted the deer. Her son came out and we loaded it in the back of his pickup. He said he was gonna process it today.
