It depends what you want, semi-auto or revolver. You get more shots out of a semi-auto and they usually weigh less, but the revolvers have no chance of jamming. I love my H&K USP, but it's a bit expensive. For cheaper guns Taurus is just about always a good value and the Springfield XD's are good as well. Glocks are supposed to be good guns as well but I've heard they can be uncomfortable. For revolvers my wife has a Smith & Wesson that is fairly nice, but I'm just not a revolver kinda guy. What it really comes down to is what qualities you want in it and what would be comfortable for you since everyone is different. Go to a gun shop and hold a few to see what fits your had, if you like the grip safety (I don't), if the gun works for you if you are left handed, etc.

Well i'm glad you said something, because i am left handed lol. and i'm looking more towards a semi-auto because i'm not a revolver person either. I couple of my buddies go out shootin every now and then and i wanted to get one so i could join them and not have to rent one everytime. I've heard good things about H&K, one of my friends has a FN 9mm which i really like and the other guys have S&W's. Next time they are around i think we will all take a trip to the local gun shop. thanks for the info
