    No problem. I did start up my truck with no piping after the muffler. It did sound different (I don't recall quite how different) and louder. I'm not sure how much the length of piping affects it. After I cut off the stock flange, I heat up the 'tabs' on it with a torch and hammered them out wider to accept the larger diameter pipe. I then slid it onto the downpipe and flared out the end of the downpipe, and that's it. Another thing I should mention is I had to fab up some bolts for use at the flange. Not because anything changed enough to require different bolts but because the stock bolts had some weird kind of nut on the end that quickly turned to mush when I tried putting a wrench on it. I ended up cutting the stock bolts off (if you do this, make sure you don't damage the spring in the process--you'll need it). I also used a gasket maker at the flange for extra insurance although it may not have been needed.

    I went with a stainless steel down pipe and aluminized steel after the muffler, for no particular reason. The specific parts are used were: Downpipe and After Muffler. All parts came out to ~$300 (including muffler), but that's doing everything and fabbing it up myself (other than cutting a couple sections on the elbows between and flared end and the bend and re-welding to modify length, the flange was really all that needed fabbing.. Cut the original flange off the stock exhaust and modified the downpipe for it to work, and it came out perfect).

    Hi Brendan,

    I am running 2.5" piping from the cat all the way back. My Flowmaster Delta 40 is a Single In-Dual Out, dumped behind the rear axle. It really sounds great IMO. It's pretty loud on acceleration but when I get off the throttle is quiets right down and idle is not obnoxious at all. Above ~2,250 rpm or so it really gets loud, enough to hear clearly over any music I may have playing. I put the muffler and new exhaust piping on a little over a month ago and I can say I am happy with it. Keep in mind this is with 2.5" piping from the cat all the way back, as well as dual outlet. I can't comment on how it may differ with only a single in/out or stock sized piping (stock piping size is 2" from the cat to the muffler and 2.25" from the muffler back).
