Iam working on a 2006 Ford Ranger transfer case. When in 4wd and riving 48 to 51 mph the transfer case will skip and sounds like the floor is dropping out from under you.The truck has 42,000 actual miles and was purchased new from Westlie Motors in Minot N.D. I was told the chain was jumping and needing replacement, I found this hard to understand with the minimal mileage, but I changed it anyway. The fluid in the case was burnt and had some small metal filings in it, I assumed (and this should never be done) that it was from the chain.I have installed a new chain beings the rest of the case appeared to be good along with the gears and other components. Well the transfer case still makes the same noise and I have talked with other dealers and certified mechanics, and showed the parts to the mechanics and they are just as stummped as I am. Any suggestions.
