I just bought a 2003 Ranger (R15) XLT 4 x 4 automatic with 249,480 miles on Craigslist for $2,300.
My mechanic says it needs repairs totaling about $2,500 . . . 2 ball joints, left inner & outer tie rods, starter, head gasket seal to pass Massachusetts inspectiond for $1,800 and mechanic charges ONLY $85.00/hour. AC refrigerant charge needed to determine if AC compressor leaking or ok, tires have enough tread . . . about 3000 - 4000 miles left.
My dilemma is that I only need truck to go to dump, pick up firewood, haul kayaks 1000 feet to beach down the road, an occasional appliance or two.
Do I try to get my money back which could be difficult in a Craigslist sale or go for the repairs on this truck which is fast approaching 250,000 miles?
