- have a 97 Ranger 4*4 / ford ranger with 110 000 miles. grinding almost bearing like noise in front rt wheel, click into 4*4 noise disappears, mechanic put new vacuum module in that power the 4*4 actuator, noise still present in 2 wheel drive but disappears when switch into 4 wheel high. Mechanic now wants to replace a component i.e. the part that slides hub in and out given he feels it is sticking. could this simply be a bearing that then the force on the wheel is applied stops making noise ?
