Default Lowering an '02 Ranger...

Okay, so I finally got my Ranger. It's a 2002 XLT 3.0V6 (not sure the motor matters to the question)

Anyways..I want to eventually see about doing maybe a 2/3 or 3/3 drop. Something to get a better stance, but still be able to go over speed bumps and whatnot.

So, I know there's a hundred other threads about it, but none of them make sense just trying to read in on them...therefore, I just need someone to tell me what it would take to do the above mentioned drop. Basically I need to know what to do, what to buy, how much it would cost.

Thank you!!

Sorry you have to remember there are not too many people here that lower trucks on here lol so, You can get a 2/3 kit from Stylin'trucks or even Illusive design. But trust me when I say that you will want to go lower. I have daily driven mine 4/5 for 4 years and have never had and issue getting over speed bumps. I would go 4/5 from the get go and get a raised transmission x-member and call it a day!

True lol, I forgot about that. How much more work is in a 4/5 as compared to a 2/3?

2/3 with shocks is right around 400 I think and a 4/5 with shock is right around 900 I think I haven't priced them in a while

your best bet may be to look for a good used 4/5 every now and then you see some with very low miles go for like 3-400

If you want a 2/3 drop to hold you over till you can afford a 4/5 drop I can show you how I did a 2/3 drop on my 2001 2.5L for $10 (yes $10 not $100) and a little elbow grease.

Heres's how.

#1 Flip the rear spring shackles upside down. You want the spring to be ABOVE the shackle. You'll only spend about $10 on 3/8"x1" grade 8 bolts, nuts, and lock washers to do the.

#2 Cut a full coil out of your driver side front coil spring. Don't cut any more than one full coil out of the driver side, because Rangers have much more weight on that side and already sag a little lowers because of this. Step 3 will fix this sagging problem.

#3 Cut a coil and a half out of your passenger side coil spring. Don't cut any more than that because any more and you won't be able to get you front end aligned properly any more!

You'll have to unhook you're upper (they're much easier than the lowers, trust me) balljoints to get the coils free. To get the coils out all you have to do is push down on the lower control arm with your foot and pull the spring out. That's all there is to it lol.

Here's a couple of pics, maybe they'll help.

How your rear shackles should look after you flip them upside down.

How much to cut off of your driver side front coil.

How much to cut off of your passenger side front coil.

And how it looks after all is said and done, and the springs have settled down.
