So we ended up putting sand bags in the box and took the block out in the back. We will also get new tires and will take it in for alignment, the guys there said they will unwind the torsion bars a bit as well.

BTW we didn't plan on buying a jacked up ranger edge we just kind of ended up with it. So we want to soften the ride abit for safety reasons as I drive on gravel all the time.

i cant think of any gravel situation where u would need to lower for better handling UNLESS ur going at inappropiate speeds...if so then lowering it is not gonna help. not trying to diss or anything, just trying to understand

With blocks removed and a leaf taken out, I'd think you're gonna be dragging ass pretty bad by just uncranking torsion bars...

And I don't understand why everyone hates people for lowering edges. Lowering a 4x4 is a different story but lowering a 2wd edge is no different than a 2wd XLT.

its different because its set up a whole lot different plus its already higher than the xlt or other ranges

But it's 2wd.

I have just as much offroad capability as a stock edge.

Height=/=offroad capability.

i highly disagree with that i believe that amount of clearance has ALOT to do with capability a 4wd that sits "low" vs a 2wd that doesnt sit low would prolly get further

To the OP, you said you ended up with the truck. Seems like an easy deal. Guess what else is an easy deal? Selling the truck and buying something else that suits your needs. Rangers were not built to corner or ride smooth on gravel, if you want something low that can corner and be smooth on gravel, Subaru and Mitsubishi make stuff to your liking. It doesn't matter how low you go, the Ranger Edge suspension itself is not designed for smooth riding. If you want smooth riding, then you need to be searching for another ride.

So, if I was double lifted, I would, in essence, make it a lot further on a rocky trail?

I think the argument you are trying to make is that by being lifted, you have bigger tires. Lifting does not pose any benefit to offroading, by itself.

i disagree w that too i think that even lifting ur valence an inch by torsion bars gives u that much more capabiltiy

lol i dont really want to argue about this

who cares if you are double lifted. i have 6ish inches of lift and can easily get further than most of the smaller pickups i wheel with in 2wd while they are in 4wd. 4wd does not make up for the frame dragging vs a lifted truck. double lifting is also not going to help in that matter all a bodylift allows is clearing bigger tires the frame will still drag.

reread the post i quoted he asked about being double lifted. regardless lift does not equal 4wd but it also helps you get places further than 2wd does

I think the chances of wiping out on gravel in a jacked up edge are higher than a lowered edge. Even going the speed limit if you hit a pot hole or dodge some deer or something you will slide around pretty easily in an edge. We know some people that had an new edge and flipped it on gravel with only 6000 km on it.

Its probably pointless but accidents happen and I do drive on gravel alot.

The only time gravel would differ from tarmac is emergency braking, and ripping around corners way too fast. those potholes you fear will take you for a ride with a "lowered" truck, as the suspension has nowhere to compress because you have taken away its upward range of motion. but I honestly don't care what you do with your truck, and you seem rather set on doing it.

well that's a shame, but there were people who rolled their explorers due to tire malfunctions in the mid 90s, so that must mean everybody who owns an explorer that has tires on it is going to flip and DIE!!!!!
