Lowering a 2001 Ranger
i have a 2001 regular cab ranger.... coil spring front... its my DD, i have a set of 17" Cobra R wheels for it and was wanting to lower it around 2" front and 3" rear... looking to do it for cheap... i was wondering what the best way to go about this would be? what all would i need? front springs? flip kit or blocks? also, do i need the caster camber kit or is there enough adjustment stock for a small drop? thanks for the help!

Re: Lowering a 2001 Ranger
When I bought my 2003 I thought the rear end sat way too high, so I removed the blocks under the rear springs and lost about 3 inches. The only thing I had to buy was new u bolts because I needed shorter ones after the change. It made the truck look level, but of course I don't haul anything heavy. I didn't change the front end and if you chage the rear end the same way I did you may not want to change the front.

Re: Lowering a 2001 Ranger
You'll need 2" drop coils, and a 3" flip kit. Yes you will need camber bolts. Look here Brian might be able to set you up with a kit

You must have had the sport model. They came with blocks under the leafs in the rear from factory.
I'm guessing OP has a 2wd xlt, so yes he would need the 2" drop coils, flip kit and 2" lift hangers.

Re: Lowering a 2001 Ranger
if your wanting to do it on the cheap, find yourself a pair of DJM springs on ebay, then go thru summit racing for the camber kit, the kit should run ya about $25 or so, and then flip your rear hangers, that will get you about 2" drop in the rear
here was my 01 with a 2/2 drop on stock tires

I have a 2002 Ranger regular cab that looks just like yours however I replaced the stock rims and tires with 20" rims, and it seems like 2/2 would be perfect, but those DJM springs would be for the front right?

Yes the springs go in the front. And a flip kit for the rear. You would also need drop shocks.

Ok so 2" lowering springs, 2" flip kit in the rear (is that the same as "flipping the rear hangers?") and a total of how many shocks? Also mentioned above was something about a camber kit? what is the purpose of that?

2" coil springs http://shop.illusivefabrications.com...nch-dropcoils/
3" coil springs http://shop.illusivefabrications.com...ch-drop-coils/
3" flip kit http://shop.illusivefabrications.com...inch-rear-kit/ this kit can also be used as a 5" flip kit with out the spring hangers if you decide to add the drop control arms and go lower later.

With the rear on a 5 inch flip do you need a notch?

Re: Lowering a 2001 Ranger
I just cut a full coil out of my driver side spring, a coil and a half out of my passenger side spring, and flipped my shackles. Turned out awesome, drives great, and only cost me $10 for grade 8 bolt nuts and lock washers.
