Default Axle Flip

I have a 94 Ranger XLT. 2wd. and would like to lower the rear by 'flipping' the rear axle to the top of the leaf springs. Should lower the back end about 4 inches or so from what I've read. I do not want to add any blocks.

I understand the way the axle is attached/held in place and the guy doing the work says I need a 'flip kit." Consists of a plate and U-bolts.
Why can't I just use the current hardware, re-installed upside down?

Parts guys at Advanced Auto and two different Pep Boys in my area both said I didn't need any extra parts, but I'll ask the experts here....

Any insight would be a big help.

you need a flip kit, they are cheap, to hold the axle into place because your axle saddle will be upside down

Yeah I got into this and had the whole back of my truck torn out only to find that they are welded on there. I learned a lot and I got pretty pissed at the guys at O'Rileys who said it would take 2 hours to do and I need nothing else.
