Lowering a 2006 Ranger Sport ?
I'm wondering how hard it is to lower a stock 2006 Ranger Sport ? At some point my dog may start riding in my truck. I'm thinking about pulling my passenger seat out and lowering the truck to make it easier for him. We tried with the truck like it is and it didn't work very well. I'm not one to throw my dog in the back of the truck so this was the only idea I could come up with. I've been using an old Camry for him but at some point I will retire it. I thought maybe there might be some dog lovers out there that may have tried this. Thanks for your comments.

Re: Lowering a 2006 Ranger Sport ?
Your 2006 Ranger Sport should have torsion bars up front and 2.25"-2.5" lift blocks In the rear. You could remove the block and de-crank your torsion bars to lower the truck about 2"-2.5". This would put you around the same height as a factory XL or XLT. You will need new U bolts for a 2wd XLT (got my last set from rockauto) and an alignment for the front.

Re: Lowering a 2006 Ranger Sport ?
Thanks ! that's good information. Is that doable in my garage or would it be worth having the dealer do it ? How much labor time would you guess ?

Dog lovers don't transport their dogs in the beds of trucks, only imbeciles.

If you can jack up the truck and turn a wrench/ratchet this is very do-able in your garage/driveway.
Most people go up not down with the torsion bars but this video explains the process well. For lower, turn counter-clockwise vs clockwise. In this case: righty lifty, lefty lowery.
The rear would be easy as well. Jack up the truck by the frame and removing the rear wheel makes the next step easier. Unbolt (4x nuts) or cut the factory U bolts off (highly recommend replacing them as they can stretch and the ones you have now are too long anyway). The leaf springs will stay together via the center bolt. Then you remove the block and bolt everything back up. Repeat for the other side.
U Bolts: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...432356&jsn=450 (this is for one, you need four. They are about $5 each)
Hopefully that made sense.

Re: Lowering a 2006 Ranger Sport ?
Thanks, nice to know it can be lowered with out much problem. I will probably start by just pulling the passenger seat and putting a carpet mat there and see how we do. I have a doberman and he just doesn't fit well with the seat in place.

That is about as low as you can go though. New shocks might be needed but you should be able to get by with your stock ones if you end up a few inches lower. If nothing else have you considered carrying a small step stool to go with your dog a leg up? Just a thought as that might be an easier solution. Since you mentioned lowering the truck I presume your dog has problems getting into the truck?
