when has a shackle flip/shackle lift caused an issue on a ranger? Never once have I seen it since 2004 when I first joined. The driveshaft has a slip yoke for this very reason. Unless the end of the yoke is slammed into the back of the tail housing, this will never been an issue.

Hes from Florida, where they have no safety inspections. That state is filled with giant pieces of shit that shouldn't be on the road due to safety concerns. Id be more worried about that over a flipped shackle IMO

Good point. No harm in pointing out the dangers though, especially cutting a coil.

No, and no to any particular vehicle either, I have not considered invoking the (N-word) rigged fix or mod, suspension or otherwise. Scabbed together things look just like that, so when I see this type of work I simply assume that anything else is done with the same level of quality.

Cutting coils may sound like a good idea but.. cutting a half a coil on car springs, at least in the Honda world nets you a 230lb reduction in weight capacity reducing control of weight & weight distribution/transfer.....

In the universe of [N-word] rigged things, I'm surprised nobody told him to go torch the front coils.

I worked on vehicles for a living for many years both in Florida and in Virginia.

The cars I repaired in Virginia were in much worse shape and neglected more often than Florida cars.

The state inspection process and so called safety items that were enforced to be at minimum standard caused many owners to neglect these safety items and other important parts until they were told they had to fix it.

For example Brake shoe lining minimum that was allowed and passable would never last the customer an entire years worth of driving at average of 1000 miles per month.

Which means when they finally came in for brake service they were already metal to metal and driving a unsafe vehicle.

Most of the time yet they did nothing until they needed a new inspection sticker.

None of this even considers how many crooked state inspectors there were at the time that would pass any POS for 100 bucks.

A driveshaft slip yoke was not designed to allow owners to modify the vehicles ride height, that is just stupid thing to say.

It is there to accommodate suspension travel and allow positive engagement to the transmission.

I am willing to bet the majority people you claim that have had no issue with the shackle flip mod no longer have their Ranger.

Regardless if a shackle flip may or may not cause problems with the slip yoke or not it will cause problems with the pinion angle and suspension travel.

The pinion angle if not addressed will cause premature wear the U joints and possibly cause a drive line vibration.

You will never read about how bad a shackle flip screwed up someone's truck.

When the driveshaft gets spit out or the U-joints wear our prematurely they do not have a clue what was the cause.

If they are unfortunate enough to have the front u-joint drop out at speed it could cause the transmission to get broken in pieces and even shear off mounting ears on the engine block.

How many proud Ranger owners are going to post on this or any forum that their dumb ass Mod caused the destruction of their truck. ( or be smart enough to figure it out).

I am guessing your defending this Mod so passionately because you have already done it to your truck or were planning on it in the near future.

All I could say to that is, if you make sure the pinion angle is adjusted and you have enough travel in the slip yoke plus you do not mind driving around with a goofy looking truck with the wheels no longer centered to the wheel wells go for it.

Ummm I believe the correct PC term is "Afro-engineered"..

And frankly, most people dont care much about anything other than the looks or status one acquires regardless of how much their ass gets fucked like a bucket of dish soap at the parts counter for more cheap shit and short cuts. let alone decent to good advice given by people who may have been unfortunate enough to make the same mistake before or just simply know better.

another uphill battle my friend.. lol

Incorrect. Just stating that posting a vid of a stock dodge chucking a driveshaft and saying "See!!! Everyone is going to die from a shackle flip" is nonsense.

Your just being a jerk now, I never said everyone will die from a shackle flip.

Posting the video is not nonsense when incorrect pinion angle can cause premature U-joint failure and driveshaft ejection.

Many of these people that end up doing these types of modifications are not knowledge enough of the potential consequences of their actions.

Perhaps seeing driveshaft getting spit out the back of a vehicle on video will be just enough to make them reconsider just randomly modifying their truck without doing it right.

I know when I commuted to work on a regular basis in a car, truck or motorcycle it was hard enough dodging potential accidents from careless drivers let alone trying to dodge parts flying off of poorly modified or maintained vehicles.

You just do not get the point that untrained people modifying their suspension without doing it right needlessly puts innocent peoples lives at risk for no reason other than to save a few bucks.

I sure would hate to see the look on your face if any of your loved ones were killed from some punk that wanted to look cool and his modifications were the cause of the death or deaths in your family.

I have to believe that no one in their right mind is so careless that they could be informed of the potential dangers yet still cut corners and do a modification like this without doing it right.

I could care less if they do the shackle flip mod or not but if they do they need to at least correct the pinion angle and driveshaft length if necessary.

Settle down guys. No need for a flame war.

Been doing my own work an my cars and my families cars for a few decades now. Everything but alignments. This truck is the closest thing to a rebuild I have ever done.

I like the look of the shackle flip and don't care about loss of load capacity. Not cutting the front coils or dropping the front in any way. Just like the look of the truck level. BUT correcting the pinion angle is a good idea. The shims to correct angle are cheap so everyone should do it. Heck, cheaper and easier than replacing the U joints.

I will set up post when shim kit goes in.

.
I had a HS classmate who went and bought a new 79 Camaro (and actually earned the $ and paid for the car himself). He had it for maybe two months and that's how he lowered the front, torched the coils. Steered ok, rode like a skateboard and looked like it when it hit a bump going down the road. Lame, lol.
