Grinding LCA for spindle lift

Now i know you have to grind the control arms to get your steering radius back, but once you grind away and take out the steering stops/stubs...how far does your wheel go? I want to lift my truck up 3 inches, but i just dont want to mess it up. I wish i could simply just drop it in with no grinding but i know thats not going to happen. Can anyone just describe to me in detail what happens after grinding?

all you have to do is cut the bump stop off and use a hammer with a punch of some sort. It will leave a little hole in the arm. thats it.

After cutting off the stop, is there a new "full lock" or something? Sorry if i sound stupid but im just 16 and doing this on my own. I dont want to mess anything up
