Default do I need new shocks?

Hey guys, I have a 2007 Ranger Sport. I have finally saved up and I am planning on lifting my truck. Today I ordered 3" spindles 4" blocks and 2" shackles for my truck. From what I have read the 3" spindles do not change the length of the front shocks but I am also going to crank the torsion bars to gain 1.5" of lift in the front. On the rear the sport ranger has a 2" block so from the new 4" block I should be gaining 2" of lift and 1.5" from the 2" shackles. What I cannot find is how to order shocks for my truck. When I am ordering how do I know how long of a shock to order? The rear should sit about 3.5" higher than stock but do I include the 2" stock block that was there? Im just a bit confused on this. Thanks for all the help!

I'm looking for more of a cheaper shock but still decent feeling on the road, I'm not going to be doing extreme offroading, rockcrawling or dessert jumping or anything, (Curb hopping is still a definite) LOL

One more question I had was if i crank the torsion bars 1.5" and i have 30,000 miles on the truck when should i be expecting to run into ball joint problems or replace anything dealing with this? Thanks for the help guys and gals

From my experience, There is no set length. In the shocks description it should say for stock and lifted suspensions. Mostly, if you go with pro comps, or ranchos, most of them are for both. I bought my Pro Comp ES 3000's for $31 a piece. Although they are a more basic shock. Ranchos are pretty basic as well. Unless your truck has a 5 to 12 inch suspension lift, you will be fine. But Forgive me, I may be wrong.

You will most likely need shocks for the rear still. Stock shocks only have about 3 inches of travel. If your lifting the rear 3 1/2 inches, your rear shocks will be extended fully. So I would suggest new shocks for the rear, Atleast. If I were you, I would buy all four. But thats just me.

I just called and tried ordering rancho RS5000 shocks and they told me they only fit the stock ranger shock size that they do not make rancho shocks for a ranger lifted. Am I suppose to order the shocks for a stock ranger with no lift and they will still fit with the front lifted 1 inch and the rear 4 inches? The guy on the phone didnt sound like he really knew what he was talking about and said these new shocks have the same travel as stock ranger shocks and wont fit.

Some quick checking found Bilstiens for lifted Rangers at the Shockwarehouse (www.shockwarehouse.com)

SF4-BE5-6216-H5 Rear 1 $75.70 each
Free Shipping
Important: 1983-1997 - Use on models with 1 to 3-inches of suspension lift. 1998-2007 Use on trucks with 2 to 3-inches of suspension lift. Compression bumpstop on chassis may need to be modified to prevent damage to the shock absorber. This is standard procedure when placing longer shocks in the stock location.

You need to contact an off road shop for info on shocks like Off Road Warehouse, 4 Wheel Drive Parts, or there may be a shop in you area.

Does anyone know how far stock ranger sport shocks are when fully expanded? I was looking around and saw the Fabtechs are about 28.5" for the rear shocks and the rancho rs5000 are near 26.25" The ranchos have free shipping and a $50 rebate and are pretty cheap on price. I"ve been looking all over trying but I cant seem to find much info on shocks. If im not mistaken, those Bilstiens are for xlt rangers with 2-3" of lift and for stock hieght edges and sports. Is anyone here running 5" or more in the rear on an edge or 4x4? (I'll have 4" blocks and 1.5" from shackles) Thanks for the help guys.

Last question, sorry guys lol. From what im reading the stock shocks are 17" collapsed and 26.25 extended. My shock on the truck is at about 23" I found some rancho rs5000 shocks for jeeps that are 19" collapsed and 32.5" extended. Shouldnt this work? my truck should be stting at about 27" (3.5" of lift and the extra length from the angle change) Would this work?
