prerunner suspension lift
hey all, im new here but looked around and decided i like this forum so joined up to chat. I want to lift my truck pretty soon and want a lift thats gonna lift up the front end more than the back. I really like the look of the prerunners and hear they ride really nice. I was looking into a bunch of lifts and think i want this RCD lift i found. It lifts the front end 6" and the rear end 3." I wanted to know if anyone has this lift and if they like it or not. Plus any suspension comments about lifting it would help out. Im thinking about saving some money and doing the lift myself also...
Oh ya i was wondering what size tires would work with that kind of lift also. i was thinkin 31s or 32s

Welcome to FRF Zach.
I had the same suspension as you on my last truck. 2wd with coils. I tossed on a 3: spindle up front and in the back I started with an AAL and then added a shackle later on.
Here is 3" spindle with AAL:
Here is the same but added a shackle to the back:
Do you have a link to this RCD kit? Curious as to what it contains. Guessing spindles and coils with new UCA.

Re: prerunner suspension lift
heres the link to what im looking at. http://www.westcoastoffroad.com/inde...unq3vih9ahr380
Its supposed to come with 5100 series bilstein suspension with springs. Its a suspension lift of 2.5" in the front with a 3" spindle kit and then a block in the rear i believe. Ive found this kit on multiple websites but this one has it for $1400 which was the cheapest ive found.
I like the pictures of your truck but the truck has the same stature. Im looking to make the front end higher. Whats your thoughts on this kit? And i hate to sound stupid... but i havent heard about shackles in suspension. what exactly are those? Im brand new to modifying cars. Ive spent time on my dirtbike. Now im looking to upgrade the truck.

Re: prerunner suspension lift
Not sure what the 2 items around the coils are...they look like some sort of coil spacer...
Also check the fabtech 5.5 kit. Since the kit you posted does not come with UCAs I would be careful as the new angles of the ball joints with lift coils will be more extreme causing much quicker wear on the ball joints.
If you really want something you can beat on and not fear breaking, check out the camburg 5.5 kit. Pricey but you get your $s worth.
If you look at my first and 2nd pic, the first pic the rear is lower compared to the second pic, check the gap in the fender well. The shackle is what connects the rear leaf pack to the frame.

Re: prerunner suspension lift
If you want something that rides nice then go with a camburg 5.5 kit. You'll be much happier with it! I do not recommend that you go with a "lift kit." Just because a truck looks nice doesn't mean it rides nice.

Re: prerunner suspension lift
The black things next to the spindles are basically the lower control arms that the shocks and springs sit in im pretty sure.
i appreciate you guys giving me your different opinions. Ive looked into both the fabtech and the camburg lifts way before joining this forum and my complaints with them are as follows:
Camburg: i cant tell if this kit only lifts the front end. i havent seen any kind of block of AAL system for the back end of the car. Does this mean it'll cost me even more $$ to buy something for the back? Its got the same bilsteins that the RCD lift will come with also.
Fabtech: It lifts the truck too evenly for me. It only levels out the truck. I know it sounds stupid but i like the prerunner look and this kit doesnt show me that in the numbers. They say its a 5.5" lift in the front and a 4" AAL and block kit in the back. I guess i could just leave one of those two out to get the look im going for...
I definitley like the camburg setup the most. It looks like its a really nice system. Its a bit of a toss up and i cant decide which to go with

Camburg is a much better set up with the Fabricated Spindle and uni-ball upper and you have the option of swapping out the shock to a 2.0 shock instead of the 5100s (the 5100s are super still and fade out quick in the dirt). And if you want something to ride nice in the rear don't go with blocks. You'll get more axle wrap than if you want with a lift shackle. And i'm not a huge fan of AAL. Every truck i've drove with them feels way to stiff in the rear. Where are you located? Do you ever plan on using your truck off road at speed?

Re: prerunner suspension lift
For the rear I too do not suggest blocks. The AAL will make it stiffer. You can swap to some stock chevy 1500 springs, will require repositioning of the front leaf pack mount. Or you can get a nice deaver or national replacement leaf pack.
If you plan on hauling ass off road go with the camburg set-up. If you just want the look, cheapest is the fabtech or doestch kit. You just buy the front set-up and get a shackle or something smaller for the back so you can still clear some decently sized tire back there unless you get glass fenders all around.

Re: prerunner suspension lift
Just wondering how many people out here have actually seen axle wrap? Ive heard that its really difficult to actually get axle wrap unless you lift the truck really high and change the geometry of the driveshaft durastically to even begin to think about worrying about it. It takes a lot of horsepower to torque the leave springs.
Anyway this lift im looking for is for on road most of the time. I like going offroad but its mostly to get somewhere with my dirtbike in the back of the truck. Im definitely gonna do some offroading once i lift the truck but mostly its tranportation into the dirt. Im not trying to do 100 miles an hour in the desert. But it would be nice to womp around some trails i go to...

Re: prerunner suspension lift
I but on traction bars to deal with the axle wrap. Jamesduff.com sells them if you were interested.
I would go with just the cast spindles then. I was pretty rough on my doetsch/springtech spindles with never a problem. The guy who has them now is merciless on his truck and has had no problems. So no need for the camburg really. I mean they are super nice, but you wouldn't be doing anything to really necessitate that kind of purchase.
