Default New Shocks?

Ok so i bought my truck and it already had the torsion bars cranked. I really need to find out if i have the keys or not but at the moment i dont know because one person at my truck store said i do and one said i dont... either way my truck rides a little stiff and i was wondering if new shocks would help? when i bought the truck the mechanic we took it to said the the shocks were worn down and needed replacement... so i'm assuming new shocks would help with ride comfort and quality? thanks for the help.

it really depends on what kind of driving you do when i had my roughcountry lift i think those were hydro shocks and i got beat to death everyday. but i dont know about very many others but i would look into blisteins, rancho. id stay away from the monroe shocks ive heard bad things about them. the rough country kit that i had had hydro 8000shocks and wow bad ride!!

thanks for the info but i'm more looking to just answer the question would new shocks even help regardless of the brand. i just went and looked and i have 3 blue shocks with no name on them (just numbers) and then 1 thats a black excel-g shock. haha i dont know what that means but i'm just wondering if new shocks would help if the current ones are worn down according to a reliable (he is a friend) mechanic. is it worth the 300 bucks to replace all 4 shocks or is it such a slight change in ride quality that its barely noticeable..?

New shocks won't make the ride any softer. It will just keep the truck from bouncing up and down more. The springs control the stiffness of your suspension, the shocks just keep the springs under control. Worn out shocks should actually make the ride feel a little more bouncy. Kinda like driving an older gm truck.

well mine bounces!!! its not like theres no suspension and its rough hits but like if i go over a speedbump kinda fast it jumps up and then comes back down fast... i dunno its hard to explain but i'd probably describe it as bouncing! if i go into a driveway or entrance that has the slanted entrance thing kinda fast it jumps up too and it like makes you sway from side to side really fast but its not like a jerk... i think i need new shocks lol

Yeah what your describing sounds like worn out shocks. A good general check is to drive the truck around for a while then see how hot the shocks are getting. if they are to hot to touch then it's time to replace. Or just push down on the top of the hood real hard and if it bounces more than twice then the shocks are done. Just some things you might wanna think about.

To answer your question, yes, shocks affect the ride quality. IMHO, I wouldn't waste the money on new shocks unless your really sensitive to changes.

The reason your truck comes down quick is because the torsion crank reduces your down travel.

well today i really concentrated on what was happening. when i go over a speedbump at give or take 15 mph my front end goes up and then back down on the other side of the speed bump and then goes back up again and then back down again. so its like this... i kno its a crappy drawing but the black line kinda represents how my truck goes up and down.

theres a huge difference in ride quality between my truck and my friends 08 sierra, my friends 07 tacoma, and my friends 08 rubicon jeep. they all have similar ride quality and they all just ride smooth and don't bounce. will getting new shocks get me that or is that impossible to get with cranked torsion bars...?
