Default lifting your ranger

there are alot of options out there for lift kits. skyjacker is a decent value. you can run as big a tire as you can the lift as long as you change the gearing to match. i really dont reccomend running bigger than a 33 inch tire though. depending on what axles you have, if its a 7.5 or an 8.8. i would almost certainly change to a 4.10 gear set if i run 33 or bigger tires. I am partial to james duff suspension for a 4x4. On a budget, however i think you will be satisfied with skyjackers ride quality as well. try to stay away from body lifts unless you really want one. I find them to be a lot more hassle in the long run. not to mention look funny. Just some pieces to help you with your research. you might also look at rancho (although ive never been happy with any of their lifts ive installed) you might find them to be excellent, depends on what you want out of the lift, try fabtech, or camburg, or mcniel offroad as well, there are alot of options out there, good luck. anyone will tell you , how high do you want to go depends on how much you want to spend! same rule applies for how fast! A website with a classifieds add, Race-dezert.com, they have an offroad parts classified, you might be able to get some other ideas from there as well.

if you have 2wd don't lift it or put big tires on it personally... your little engine will thank you for it. If anything put some small lift spindles on it to level it out, and maybe a more aggressive looking tire, if you want an offroad tire I believe the super swamper LTB's are one of the ones available for 14" wheels... I think the biggest you would want to go is a 30" tire

He does not have spindles. And there is only 3" lift spindles, no leveling spindles. I believe he has the TTB suspension, so no spindle. I ran 32s on my 3.0 2wd with no problems, and on 3.73 gearing.

97 2wd. Well, unless it's an edge, trailhead, or sport, it's going to have TIB I'm pretty sure.

Yes, it will have spindles. All vehicles with spinny wheel things will have spindles. They're not going to have a stub shaft running through them, but they're still spindles.

It's not going to look like the same knuckle/spindle bs used with the A arm suspensions.

TTB is for 4wd, TIB is 2wd for gen 3

Many people refer to the front suspensions in 1983-1997 Ford Rangers as a TTB suspension. The fact is, that TTB refers to the 4x4 version and TIB refers to the 2WD version.

TTB/TIB suspensions can be built to provide a lot of wheel travel. Soft coil springs and the lever action provided by the beam make for a great off-road design. From the early 1980s to the mid 1990s, I-beam suspensions could be found on just about every successful race truck. Even today, most serious prerunners use some form of I-beam suspension for its durability, simplicity, and long wheel travel potential. I-beams do have their Achilles heel, though. With the long travel comes excessive amounts of camber and caster change throughout the suspension cycle. This can cause erratic handling if the steering linkages are not considered.

From 1966 to 1979 Ford used the longest equal-length I-beams of any year on its 2WD F-series trucks. These arms stretched all the way to the opposite framerails. The longer the beams are, the more travel that can be obtained. From 1980 to 1996 Ford used unequal-length I-beams, the driver side being longer. This allows the driver side to provide more travel than the passenger side with less camber change. Needless to say, this can cause some unique handling situations.

Rangers (and Bronco IIs) from 1983 to 1997 also enjoy the long travel benefits of I-beam suspension. Much like the 1980-1996 fullsizes, the Rangers have a longer beam on the driver side.

it doesnt matter if its 2wd or 4wd when referring to engine size, both will have the same engine. the gearing will make a big impact on acceleration with bigger tires. id say save up for some used i-beams you can get on dezertrangers.com or race-dezert.com. that way you'll can gain performance AND lift it at the same time. thats just my opinion though
