A torsion bar is a suspension component which acts as a spring by the twisting action of the bar.

It is located on each frame rail spanning from just under the middle of the front door to the lower control arm. It is inserted into the arm via a hex hole.

Cranking them means to adjust the adjustment bolt to either a: raise the ride height or b: cure sagging bars. You're doing both by cranking the adjustment bolt. Sometimes called a TT: Torsion Twist.

Here's a torsion bar and it's location...(arrow pointed at adjustment bolt)

Here you'll see the full length of it. They are the two bars parallel with the frame...

They are found on 98+ 4x4 Rangers/B-series, as well as 00 Trailhead 2wd, '01-05 Edge 2wd, and '06-08 Sport 2wd.

Judging by your avatar, you've got a 98-00 2wd coil spring truck. You do not have Torsion Bars.

The ride they give can definately be improved upon. Pretty darn expensive to lift. Coil-overs are a far better setup and compeditors in the same segment as Rangers have them. Torsion bars have been used since the 40's...maybe earlier.

Oh...and if you're lifted, they can be a huge eyesore and increases the chance of becoming high centered when out wheeling. Mine t-bar key skids are pretty scratched up and I've been hung up by them before a number of time.

Torsion bars are like ridding on a gravel road all the time especially when cranked

Coil overs are like riding on air

what rearend do you have? if you have an 8.8 they sell a lot of lockers, if its the 7.5, then only a handful, summit racing has them all for good prices

Why do you want a locker? You're not lifted now, you're 2wd, why do you think you need it? I know adding one to a 2wd is a night and day difference, but if you don't drive in those conditions or wheel your truck, I don't see a reason why you would be considering a locker. Should get what you're after with a limited slip.

cheapest way to get a LS is find an axle in a junkyard that has it and 4.10 gears, itll be an 8.8 axle, pretty much bolt up operation. search www.car-part.com to find some in your area

Your sig says 2.3L....you DO NOT have torsion bars. If you did have torsion bars and did what you're asking about, you'd have a BIGGER rake than stock.
