Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
ok so heres my bigggg question i got. So i got a 2001 ford ranger edge 4wd. I was planning on lifting it about 3". My original plan was using this kit..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/260859880881...84.m1438.l2649 .... nice good lift at a decent price. ok well here comes the problem. I got a brush guard i recently put on about a month ago. but i had to customly put it on the truck by welding it to my frame and it fits on it now perfect. I had to cut into my bumper so it would fit but i got it for $50 so i couldnt resist lol. But willthe lift kit lift the body and affect the brush guard/frame or will i be good? Otherwise will i have to get like a spindle lift which is about the same price as the original kit but just lift the front =/ pretty expensive buttt plz let me know what you think i should do cuz i really wanna keep this brush guard on and also lift it at a decent price. thanks!

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
not calling my self an expert but im pretty sure a spindle lift wont work with that truck since spindles are solid metal. your best off either ditching the brush guard or re working it some how and go with a cheap body lift off of summit or if you wanna drop big bucks buy the superlift kit. as far as torsion keys go from what ive read and what i understand they are kinda a gimmick. if you wanted to lift your front end up with the t bars just crank on the stock ones. im pretty sure theres a thread on here that shows you exactly how to do it. (if anyone sees any wrong information in this post feel free to correct me. Im almost certain everythings correct!)

Soon to come: fender flare removal, tear off paint under them, replace with bedliner all the way around the truck, paint topper, fix window seals on topper, build roofrack for topper, install shit on roofrack, and make the inside of the topper livable.

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
thanks pat i think im gonna have to just cut it off, put the lift on and then just make custom brackets for it cuz i still want that guard on it but ill give it time for me to think but ya think tosion bars are gimmicks? would about add-a-leafs? cuz those were my two choices and maybe blocks till i get some dough to get a super lift.

torsion twist is free instead of paying for torsion keys, and do the same thing. there's a how to on here about how to do it. add a leafs are better than blocks.

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
tbars themselves are not gimmicks they are a form of suspension. but the aftermarket tbar keys I believe are a joke. if your gonna crank your torsion bars just do it with the stock keys and crank on em.
Add a leafs and blocks only have to do with the rear suspension, and as far as I'm concerned those are fine. I have my tbars crankd and then shackles in the rear.
I attached a picture of a truck with torsion bars. the red circled area is the torsion bar.
Ill go look for the thread on precisely how to crank tbars. its good info.

Theres the best how to thread on how adjust tbars.
Make sure you heed his advice about getting an alignment check after doing this. youll ruin your tires and stuff.

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
I agree with pat on this one, torsion keys are kinda a joke. the main reason for torsion keys is so people can twist the torsion bars and get lift as well as the lift from the keys. while this is a cheap lift up front, it will cost you in the end. there is a great write up about this in one of the stickys on this page. basically, this type of lift will cause the lower ball joints to wear out at an alarmingly fast pace. i would suggest either going BL of spending the extra money on the suspension lift. there is also another thread in the sticky section that has multiple lift options for your ranger.

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
What would the brushgaurd have to do with a suspension lift? It does nothing to the frame of body mounts.

Re: Need help on liftin my truck plz!!!
Cd is correct. Your brushgard is fine because your not doing a body lift... now assuming you wanted to do a body lift then you would have issues with the bumper raising brackets and all that jazz. But if you do keys you may have ball joint problems... stuff just wares faster...
