Default Pros and Cons of Body lifts?

So Ive been looking at getting a 3 in body lift and going for the hurst shifter but I had some questions about if i would need extentions on that shifter and my manual t-case selector so I stoped by Avenger 4x4 which does all kinds of specialty 4x4 work. I talked to the guys there about it and they strongly recommended against it. According to them it doesnt really help you be any more trail worthy because the frame stays at the previous height and will drag going over obsticles just like before. Though I see his point Ive seen many people here have installed the body lift and like it quite a bit. I suppose my question would be is the body lift worth the money or would it be better used being put towards a suspension lift either the skyjacker 4 in kit for my stock front end or a sas with say a 4 link? I care far less about how my truck looks driving down the road then I do about its off road performance but I also dont have a money tree in the back yard. Any takes from you guys?

pro- lifts the body to allow bigger tires
cheap
easy to install with some friends + wobbly sodas

cons- no increased ground clearance
you can see the hideous frame
spare tire hangs down and looks dumb
solid body mounts can cause your body to rip around the mounts
looks poser

Is there any way to prevent the rips on the body around the mounts? say if you got a 2 or 2.5 in lift and just stacked the stock mounts on top of those? would that cause a stability issue or maybe rip the stock mounts?

Pros:
Cheap
Easy to install
Allows for larger tires
Very easily hidden on Rangers(spare can be removed and put in the bed)
$200 upgrade that makes Rangers look great(IMO)

Cons:
It's a body lift
Same ground clearance
Looks like shit if not done properly(gap guards, raised bumpers/hitch/exhaust etc)

anything is possible but not always the best decision. personally i don't know because i like to stay far away from body lifts.

ok so i suppose the next big question is what would i do with my t-case selector? would that need an extention as well? I think the hurst would more than likely need an extention but i have no idea what to expect for the t-case

pretty sure you'll need an extension for those (purchased separately) but everything else needed is in the body lift kit

genius point of a SL is that it raises (on my truck at least) the entire front end off the ground in the center, allowing me to not use my frame as a rock/stump/anything finder. guaranteed i could see a side shot of your truck and know it was body lifted.

If you don't wheel every day and don't want to be out 1,500$ for 4 inches of lift get a BL IMO

Well we all don't have 2000 to blow on lift+ shaft or else I would have both.

i smoked the IFS on mine and SAS was cheaper than replacing what i broke. taking the stock ranger IFS on real trails tears it up real quick. learned that one the hard way.
