2003 Ranger 4.0 4x4 fx4 body lift vs suspension lift???
hi the names dan from milwaukee wi ive had my ranger for about a year and finally have the money to do some modding on it. current tire size is 245 75 16 want to go up to 33s or 35s but need to bring the trucks ground clearence up a bit. i been looking at kits and am sittin on the fence about which to go with first body or suspension. ive installed a few myself for freinds and what not but im not to sure about rangers about which would work better from a looks and handling stand point. i was under the truck today at work and looked at the rear susspension and saw that the truck comes stock with a 1.5inch rear susspension lift but not too sure if what im looking at is correct. i could use a little input as far as what i should do. thanks

Welcome Dan!
Depends what your budget is
Like the above mentions:
Body Lift for smaller price
Suspension if you can afford it

Re: 2003 Ranger 4.0 4x4 fx4 body lift vs suspension lift???
i put on a 3 inch PA body lift and it looks great need biggers tires and a tbar crank....what turned me off from a suspension lift was that u have to replace the driveshaft after 20,000 miles according to the suspension lift sites i was looking at

Re: 2003 Ranger 4.0 4x4 fx4 body lift vs suspension lift???
Welcome, Body lift suits a tight budget, Suspension lifts do cost alot. So whatever suits the budget is your best option there. If you have the money and can do both, I do both! My truck is double lifted with 33's and I love it.

Re: 2003 Ranger 4.0 4x4 fx4 body lift vs suspension lift???
You can put on a bodylift from summitracing.com it is the summit brand made for the 99-2000 ranger and it cost 170 bucks. If you go suspension lift you are looking at 1500 dollars.
The rear on the FX4 and Edge have blocks.

Body lift doesn't lift anything but the body so any low point on the truck is in the same low spot as before.
Suspensions that are offered use drop brackets which just bring the torsion bars and lower control arms closer to the ground. These say they wear front half shafts faster. Howerever superlift offers a set of double cardon half shafts that solve this problem. Personally I would get the dixon bros kit if I was going to keep the ifs. It uses coilovers and dumps the torsion bars. Handling and ride will be way better with this kit vs superlift or any of the others.
I personally hate bodylifts as they don't do anything for me up here. The trails I hit I would drag the transfercase on rocks which is no good. I went with a solid axle swap and that problem is long gone. Depending what you are looking to spend a sas is an option as well.

Re: 2003 Ranger 4.0 4x4 fx4 body lift vs suspension lift???
I got an 07 fx4 with a 3" body lift. I put my 33's on it just fine with just the bl. I cranked the tbars a little though just to level it out. Looks a lot better.
