Cool 2009 Ford Ranger Lift Clearification

I recently purchased an 09 Ford Ranger 4x4, I've heard that an 08 body lift will work with my truck. Is this true and has anyone done this? Experience any problems. Also Im interested in getting the Torsion Bar Keys for the front. Any opinions? I appreciate all the help.

mm what about torson keys in a 09 tho it would be like a pre key swap sense they ride lower than the 06 down models if you dont crank them to much

PreKey the truck. PreKey is a mod you do to 08+ torsion bar trucks...what you do is put in 98-07 factory torsion keys because in 08, Ford put lowering keys in the trucks. If you do the mod and put the adjustment bolt at the same depth as stock, you'll gain approx 1.5" of lift. I got 1 9/16" lift from the '08 I PreKey'd. You are changing stock for stock and making the truck essencially a 07 and older...getting it back 'proper'. No worries of over cranking like the aftermarket 'lift/leveling' keys do. Those are garbage and tear apart your front end components.

For your 09, you need to look at your bed...you may have 10 bolts. IF that's the case, you'll need to order an additional 4 blocks from PA(Performance Accesories) as well as the 4 added bolts. 08 and older trucks have only 6 bed bolts. Kits come with 14, so you'll need 4 attitional bolts.

Any 98+ kit will fit any 98+ truck. I suggest the SummitRacing kit because it's about $100 cheaper than the PA 01-05 kit.

very well...I like all the ideas. My goal is to get some 16x8s wrapped in 31s or 33s. Dont have a huge budget if I may add as well.

You can fit 33x12.50R15's after the BL and it would look AWESOME!! Here's my friend's 08 that's been PreKey'd and 3" BL'd on 33x12.50's and 15x8's....

Summit BL: $150
98-07 Torsion keys: $60 ea brand new
15x8 steel wheels: $40-60 ea brand new
33x12.50R15 tires: depending on type/brand, $150-200 ea.

I suggest the 15's over the 16's because 15" wheels are alot cheaper and the 15" tires are alot cheaper. Plus, you can even look into craigslist for really good wheel/tires for ALOT off retail. TONS of depreciation on wheels and tires. I've only ever bought 1 set of brnd new tires for my truck. Always craigslist specials!

Something I see alot of folks do and it helps build credit, is doing wheels and tires via a tire shop and financing it through them. I don't suggest going into debt as I like to pay cash for everything, but it's a nice option to take, build credit, and only ends up being about $50 a month at a low interest rate.

Forgot to add....if you prekey it, and do a very mild torsion crank, the truck will sit dead level.

so 15s will fit the 09 Ranger? I thought they had to be 16s or bigger.

It varies from wheel to wheel.....very few aluminum 15" wheels have the problem of hitting the caliper up front. Most steel clear just fine. Pictured above is a 15x8 steel on an '08...'03+ have larger front rotors. And come stock with 15's on 'em...16's are optional.

That was kinda blahblahblah....sum it up, it depends on wheel to wheel. All in all, a 15" will fit. And if it won't, just a minimal grind of your caliper will make it fit.

i figured the calipers would be the issue. Then again I have a Sport model so the 16s are probably something that just comes standard on the sport models. I appreciate the help, Im new to the 4x4 Ranger community. I have always driven 2wds and never lifted them or bought any aftermarket products for them.

Yeah man...no problem. There's TONS of knowledgeable people here and at other Ranger Based Vehicle forum sites. Just ask away and learn. Look at other peoples trucks and get ideas. That's how I started with a bone stock '01 in '04. Now there's only the sheet metal and frame that's stock to the truck!

whats your opinion about just getting the BL and cranking out the TBs a little?

It'll be fine for 33x12.50's and the BL. I had to trim the valence a little bit...but if you crank more, you shouldn't need to trim. I was VERY conservative in the cranking on that truck. Thats what the orange truck above was before the Prekeys went in. It'll still have a rake to it. it'll be fine.
