Default belltech shackle install

i hoping to get this stickied since i had a hard time trying to figure it out on my own.. i know that it is a couple of bolts and all but pics and a how to thread should be helpful to clear up all the confusion for people that want to do this in the future

ok first start with getting the truck off the ground. support the rear by the frame if you dont have a lift of any kind... and then remove the rear tires.. i hope everyone that does this knows how to at least do that part.

ok well some basic tools to do the job
1. metric and standard wrench set
2. a torque wrench
3. PB blaster or liquid wrench penetrating oil
4. an impact gun if you have one
5. set of belltech shackles
6. a jack

here is the difference in stock shackles and belltech shackles..

also these can raise the rear end up to 2 inches or 1 inch.

then remove the lower bolts that keep the shocks in place

next support the axle with the jack, just put the jack under the diff and jack it up to the axle and lift it just a little bit to get the weight off the shackles (it makes life alot easier)

and now you can get under the truck and see needs to be removed

next remove the bolt that holds the leaf spring in place and then unbolt the shackle.

when you unbolt the shackle you will find this wierd looking nut behind the shackle.. you will need to find this to put the shackle back in place and keep it tight.

next install the new shackle and put the bolt back in place and you will have to feel with the nut to get them to line up. get the bolt tight but not to torque specs at least not yet. and then insert the leaf into the new shackle i just used my hands to lower the leaf in place and then slipped the bolt through it to hold it in place. If you have to tow package dont slip the bolt all the way through cause you have like a inch to play with on the other side to get the nut on cause the tow package gets into the way.

then put the nut on the leaf spring bolt and tighten it down to 75 foot pounds of torque. and then do the same to the shackle bolt up top. and then repeat on the other side.

and here are some before and after pics of my truck
before

and after

I did run into a couple problems when i installed them cause i have the tow package i had to remove the hitch and all because the lower shackle nut was getting into the way and causing it to rub and affect the downtravel of the suspension.. so i just removed it. but if anyone has a fix please let me know cause i want to install the hitch again ASAP!
thanks chris

I didnt have any issue with the lower shackle bolt affecting the travel. However the bolt head does rub a little bit on the steel plate from the tow package. Not a big deal though in my mind

You also dont need to take the shocks off....

Put the bolt through from the inside so the bolt head is against the hitch and you'll be fine.

Well on mine I just removed the shock so there wasnt alot of pressure on the shock. Since they arent extended

There would be no pressure on the shock if it was extended...

my shocks arent extended but when you install the shackle it changes the location of the axle and creating a larger gap from frame to axle.. so longer shocks are needed.. because of that i just unbolted them to keep the pressure off of them so they dont break.

and hazardous apparently when you put them in and put the wheels back on the ground the shackles natural position is to move back a little so because of that it rub on it and creates a nice high pitch annoying noise... and on mine the lower bolt was rubbing on the tow hitch and so it was limiting my downtravel.. it was rough. alot like a go cart with no suspension.. so i just took it off... but im looking into getting it fixed so i can put the hitch back on

Done shackles before you don't have to remove the shocks...the factory ones also have enoug travel for you 2" lift. When you drive down the road the position of the axle changes no one has shocks breaking?
