Default Ranger With sprung under leafs need solutions for 3-4" lift.

Ranger With sprung under leafs need solutions for 3-4" lift.
I have a 1993 Ranger 2WD with a 1997 Explorer rear end. I installed my explorer axle without flipping the spring pads.I want to lift the rear by 3-4 inches without using shackles. I have a pair of 2" shackles under there and I am not happy with the wheel hop. I do not want to flip the spring pads if i dont have to also I was told by a Auto tech allumni that leaving the sprung under setup would be better for handling. Bottom line question: is there a way to give my ranger a proper 3-4 inch lift in the rear by using the GM 64 inch springs, or are there any other setups I can use other than aftermarket.. Note: I do not have the explorer Uni-leaf, it is the standard leaf spring pack.

Thanks for reading!

sorry guys I should have used the search function. Any other input other that what is posted in the other sprung under thread. I am not wanting a pre-runner setup, I want a good street truck that will still be good for hauling heavy loads.

honestly i would spring over. but if you dont want to do that, you could have your springs re-arched to give you some lift or put an add a leaf in it.

Yeah I may still do that, I do have a way I can get my ranger worked on at the college, but for now I am looking at my options i can do with the tools I have. I am thinking about the 64 inch leafs, what do you think?

im in the same boat buddie, run boomerang shackels in the rear. you can find them for xj and yj jeeps but wil work on rangers for about 2" lift. also running any chevy leafs from 88-98 k or c series 3/4 ton trucks can add about 2" more. note the stock shocks will probibly need to be replaced.

oops didnt notice u didnt want shackles lol exclude that part and just keep adding leaf springs. also check out giants 64" leaf kit.

Chevy leafs seem perfect for you. Snag them from a junkyard...I wouldn't buy them new its a waste of money.

just finished swapping my chevy leafs in, had to move the front perches forward so the center of the leafpack was back in place. i think i even shortened the wheelbase a half an inch and used boomerang shackles. got some good lift, kinda stiff. now i jsut need taller shock towers to use my big boy shox. pix soon.

I am not sure of what happened to my post for i probably did not submit it. I already have 2" shackles so are boomerang ones necessary? Do I have to bend the chevy springs to a certain degree to accomplish this. You had to cut, weld, and rotate the perch forward to make this work?

thanks for the reply

What i meant to say is, what do I need to do about the perches. Should I get new ones to do this?

I would get new perches unless you are really good at cutting the old ones off, Boom shackles replace your reg shackle, no bending needed. What your going to do is your going to move yout front spring perch foward

The distance from the front spring perch to the axle centering pin is a few inches longer on the chevy springs than stock springs. If you bolt the springs up just like they are, your wheels will not be centered in the wheel well. You need to grind/drill/remove the rivets holding the front spring hanger on and move it forward so that the holes in the back of the hanger are now on the front of the frame holes. I am not sure how it will affect your lift because of the spring under, but my guess is you will still have to re-arch the springs.

If you already have lift shackles, you do not need anything different.

Ahh i see, this is to accommodate for the centering pin. Okay, still it would be nice to see pics but I understand it more now.
