WTF. i can not get the top bolt out of the shackles i have the nut off but i can not get the bolt to come through the bushing. OH YEA if you have a aftermarket hitch on your truck be prepared for a pain in the ass. THe lower bolts of the shackles cant be pushed out because of the mounts for the hitch.

So i am hoping that once i get the top bolts out the shackles will drop down enough so that i can push the lower shackle bolts through. Wish me luck. ill post up some pictures a little later

Pull the springs all the way out with the shackles on, I just replaced my springs a week ago. Its way easier to do the work with the springs off the truck.

i would pull the springs off but even if i remove the bolt in the front of the leaf springs i still cant get the top bolt out of the hanger/shackle

----------

On the passenger side i got the bolt to come out about 5/8 of an inch but on the drivers side i cant get the top bolt to come out at all. Im real tempted to just get the cutting torch and just torch the top bolts off and go get new ones tomorrow at parts store

you should lower the truck a bit then, the axles are probably pulling down on the spring. when i did my swap, i had to take the whole spring off so i unbolted the axle from it first and it made it a million times easier, just a thought. and if you get it that hot, you will probably have to buy bushings too.

If i only need to torch the top bolt off of the stock shackle ill be ok because the new shackles have bushings in them already. I think if can get the top bolt of the shackle out, The leaf springs will drop down far enough so taht i can slide the lower bolt out of the stock shackle and then do the steps backwards with the lift shackle? no?

I wish the jack stands were taller yet. i have them maxed out. I should just wait till the spring when my ol man is buying a lift from his neighbor. at least i wouldnt have to be laying on the garage floor !

use your ratchet to unthread the bolt instead of trying to pull it out.

you don't need an air chisel. i managed to change 3 sets of shackles using a breaker bar and ratchet.
