Default when to get new shocks?

i have an 06 sport with a 3'' body lift and whenever i go over a bump i hear some serious squeaking coming from the front. I always just thought it was my shocks and knew i would eventually replace them, i found some OEM replacements on craigslist for 40 bucks and was wondering if it would be good to get them and see if it fixes the problem. The guy said they have about 15,000 miles use on them and are rated to 50,000 to 60,000 miles. My truck only has about 55,000 miles so is that a normal time to consider new shocks?

that could be your ball joints.

Dont just start replacing things, find where the problem is.

Does it squeek when you just move the front end up and down or on harder impacts? I'd say it is probably just your sway bar bushings that are dry and need a little bit of grease. Get under there and start listening to where the squeek is coming from before trying to replace shocks and ball joints because you have a squeek somewhere.

i got under there and started pulling down and listening for the problem and it appeared to be coming from these:

are these the sway bay bushings u were talking about? its pretty rusted as u can see and even a little corroded on the other one.

yep... Unbolt them from the frame, clean the sway bar as good as you can, grease it up a little bit on the side of the bushings.... slide the bushing over then clean and grease where the bushing goes. Slide it back over and bolt it all back up.

so i just got back from autozone and they recommended marine grease so i picked some up, after doing some research online some people say dont use marine, some say they do, any suggestions as to what u have used? also is it necessary to jack up my truck in order to grease them? again some sites mention it, others dont

yea marine grease attracts dirt. But i use marine grease on everything that needs grease and i havnt had any problems yet so i say don't worry about it but the call is up to you. And its just your sway bar bushings not that big of a deal anyways lol you will always get dirt right there with any grease

Just use a can of of cheap grease...no big deal, if it squeaks again take another 5 min and redo it. You dont need to jack up the truck, just undo the 4 bolts into the frame, clean, slide, grease, repeat, bolt back on.

just greased up the sway bar bushings and it did help the squeaking occuring there, but i still noticed more noise so now its on to find the next culprit haha

mine does the same thing, im pretty sure its the same thing, cause its whenever the suspension moves even going ultra slow over speed bumps and such, its a real high pitched squeal, time to do mine.
