Why does everyone want to lift a 2wd? It makes me so angry.

It's a 2wd. It's missing a differential and a few other parts that tend to be great off road.

Building a 4x2 for long travel is one thing. One very pricey thing. I like that thing. That's the project after the 408 swap in my crawler, the restore on my 72 F250, and the SBC swap in a 1965 Volvo 544 I'm gettin here in a little while.

Building a 4x2 low rider is one thing. Not my thing. But it's a thing. But the purpose is to drag frame.

Building a 4x2 to play in puddles and dirt roads is a horrible waste of money and effort.

Is it a toy or transportation?

Building a 4x2 to be capeable in the snow and terrain YOU'D COME ACROSS is a great idea.

What's the point of lifting? To give room for wheels to travel, and to fit bigger meats.

What's the point of wheel travel and fitting bigger tires? To keep traction.

What's a 2wd missing? A front end pulling it while the rear end pushes it. So uh, traction.

Unless you're gonna go balls to the wall, I'd suggest:

Running an extended shackle in the rear (or flip, I don't know how the hell the 4x2s are set up.) Frees up articulation, helps keep your feet on the ground. Plus it'll give you a titty bit of lift.

Running a diff locker, to keep you moving when you lift a foot off the ground.

Cutting the fenders to fit what ever tire you want / what the axle can take.

Remember, the main purpose of big tires is to get you some clearence under your diffs, and give you a good grip on rocks.

If you're not putting yourself in the position to get caught up on tubes and pumpkins, then what the hell is the point of lifting it to fit bigger tires?

Run a wide tire rather then a big tire too. A 33x12.5 will give you plenty of grip, a locker will seal the deal, and the shackle will help you stay planted.

That's all you need. And you're lookin at 350 for a lunch box locker, 50 for shackles, and what ever tires you desire.

With some skill, you can take that locked 2wd further then ****y body lifted open diff 4x4 guys can go.

/End rant.

Ok that's cool.

But you're shelling out for long travel.

Going A arm or TIB?

A 4wd long travel would do great everywhere.

But what the hell is the point of a lifted 2wd with out gobs and gobs of travel? And you'll notice all the trophy trucks keep a low COG.

Form > Function is not all that bad as long as it fits the user's need. In this case, it's seems the owner does not wish for his truck to actually perform off the packed stuff, he's buying a dirt-bike. This doesn't mean he won't get 'cut' on by enthusiasts. In my logic, Function > Form is better, I also drive a FX4 Level II so I have a little of both. I do not wish to see my perception forced on others but that doesn't mean I won't jost ya about it.

The 2wd edge is an extremely capable truck when I first got mine the only thing I had done to mine was an electric locker in the rear and I could keep up with all my freinds in jeeps and fulsized trucks, then go out to the dezert or sand and rule there world ! just because a trucks missing a front diff doesnt make it pointless

It takes more skill, balls, and brains to wheel a 2wd.

Just about anybody can go out with a SAS, lockers, 38" Super Swampers, 64" rear leafs, and some cute little fender flares and go drive through a puddle or two.

In a 2wd, you have to have a TON more understanding of your truck and your skills.

Not to say a 2wd can go EVERYWHERE a 4wd can, but I'd say it is a hell of a lot more impressive seeing a 2wd keep up with, and surpass the 4wd's.

Thats exactly what I do!

On a softer note, make sure you have a good buddy with a 4wd and a winch, because you WILL need them...

Lol, do what you wanna do man.

2wd>4wd
All day every day.

2WD!!!!!

waaa waaaaaa waaaaaaa....

Each have their advantages....each of their disadvantages. If I don't do the things I do with my truck, I'd be driving a 2wd Ranger....most likely a double lifted edge. I wheel it just like the 2wd guys do on trail wheelin': go balls to the walls as far as I can go. BUT....only difference is I've got that clicker on the dash/lever on the floor when I go as far as I can. 2wd's are capable. Alot here don't know who this guy is, but damnit, John Griggs/N3elz brought that 2wd edge of his to hell and back...double lift, 35's, and a rear locker. There just comes a point when you can't go any further. *click*

It all boils down to this: what you do with it.

Not the lowered rig on here, not a chance lol.
At least not yet, that is. I quite literally have the Add-A-Leafs sitting right next to me right now. I will pick up a 3"spindle, 4" lift coils, UCA's, Rear blocks, Explorer leafs to mix into the pack, and the Summit body lift by May. I have some 33x10.5x15 BFG All-Terrains that will fit very nicely under this whole package

But, I have my old '73 F-250 Camper Special 2wd with a 4 speed and a 390ci for my wheelin right now. It goes anywhere and everywhere!
