i have never done an axle flip on a ranger but i believe explorers were sprung under for the first gen at least, so i would assume just pull the springs and axle off one of those. you might be able to find someone looking for a spring over for their explorer and trade them straight across.

if you want to flip a ranger axle, get a flip kit and your basic tools. but as ben said, you can get an explorer axle (95-01) and it will mount on top of the springs, plus gain disk brakes, and most have l/s.

ok say i find a 95-whatever explorer axle and it does come with the disc brakes and l/s. can i pick and pull the rest of the components to convert my truck to use disc brakes in the rear, how does that work the brake caliper just plugs right into my current brake lines instead of drum?

you will need the all the explorer lines on the axle, and the soft line that goes to the hard line on the ranger frame. you can see it in these two pics.

i went out searching for an explorer axle and found many but i think they were all 3.73 gears and i am looking for 4.10 with l/s. what year explorers, aerostars, or rangers can i find a 8.8 4.10 gears and limited slip? and what is the code on the dif tag so i can tell

----------

what about the shock mounts on the top of the shock, do they mount to the same top mounts on the frame or do i need to make new ones?

just have to keep looking for one with 4.10s.

as for the shocks, you can use the stock ranger upper mounts.

wow it swapped in nicely just a minor thing to remember are new lugs for the rear, the hard line plugged right into the soft line. Thanks for the tips, and its not until just now i was looking at this picture and noticed you modified the frame rails. what are the measurements of those black plates because i didnt modify my frame and i have like 3 inches of travel before the frame hits the bumpers.

and ones lats thing, was that right shock looking at the rear already mounted there or did you move it, because mine is on the other side of the axle facing forwards ?X
