lifting with hockey pucks

i just bought a 92 ranger all stock everything in very good condition. i have a question though. i think the truck is generally not that attractive to the eye an i am thinking that a descent set of rims and a lift will help. I was talking to my father the other day and i explained to him that i was thinking about lifting my truck. he told me that years ago he did the same thing with one of his buddies using cheap hockey pucks. i was wondering what all would i need to do this because i am still in school and am only able to work a short amount of hours at a minimum wage job. money is very tight and i think a cheep lift like this would be awesome. if anyone has done this or thinks they know how this can be done please help. if you are wondering why i don't just ask my dad. he doesn't remember lol.

you need bolts like the ones for your body just longer and you need some hockey pucks just place X amount of pucks till you get lift you want then drill hole through the center and put a bolt through it and tighten it down its gonna give you a crappy ride comfort tho

i dont think the material the hockey puck is made out of would last. im sure it will work, but you have to account for lifting bumpers and all as well, just not cab and bed.

would not look right with unlifted everything else. just work those hours and save your money and get the correct lift:

$150 is not so bad for a lift, im sure even at a minimum wage job, you can acheive this

using hockey pucks to body lift your truck is wrong and dangerous on so many levels. do yourself a favor and save your money for a good manufactured body lift. they are inexpensive and easy to install and come with the brackets to align your bumpers and such. dont use hockey pucks!

Pucks are made of rubber, constant rubbing from the bolts and the frame will wear them down and eventually break. Dixie and PAT are right, the lifts are rather cheap and you'll be doing it right with the right equipment

Plus you can buy the correct 3in lift blocks on eBay for 7.00 each. Buy 4 & cut them down to 1in thick. So for 28.00 you will have 12 real lift blocks.

okay so i see what u mean. so i could get the real pads or whatever off ebay then follow up and just drill the holes?.. i still haven't made up my mind but if it works i wanna try it... i live in sd so the pucks will be frozen for the time i use my truck.. i only want to use the truck for winter otherwise i am on my way restoring a 64 impala witch i wanna use for the summer. i also need shocks for my truck any suggesitons

The "pads" on eBay already have the holes in them. But they are 3in tall. So you saw them into 3, 1in thick pieces. So 1 3in block becomes 3 1in blocks/pads

Yes. Remove bolts on one side, lift and insert the 1" piece you cut from the original 3" lift block. Insert bolts, and tighten. You will need bolts same as you take out but 1" longer.
Although as these guys stated your truck bed, and front end, will sit 1" above the front and rear bumper. Its cheap but not sure how 1" gap between front and rear bumper would look.

ya i c wut u are saying... is their a way i could mount the spacers on the shocks or some part of that assembly to just boost it up that way without having to worry about the bumper issue

First off if ur doin a body lift, that has nothing to do w/ suspension. If ur replacing ur shocks juz cuz their bad jus find new stock ones or something. Putting a spacer under a shock will give you zero lift. Lifting suspension components are a totaly diff animal than bodylifts. And if u wind up doin a suspension lift u should be able to use ur stock shocks if u keep it under 2" of lift
