Is there such a thing as too much lift?
Hi,
First off, I don't have my truck yet but I am thinking about what I want to do to it when I get it.
So,
Is there such a thing as too much lift?
I was thinking of doing a 3 inch body lift at first then later doing a suspension lift.
I'm wondering if I added a 6 inch suspension lift, giving it 9 inches total, would it look retarded on 33s?
I don't want to go bigger than 33s because of what the larger tires do to the mpgs.
What about a 3 in body with a 3in suspension for a total of 6 in, how would that look?
Thanks for answering my noob questions.
I'm trying to learn every thing I can.

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
33's will already fuck up your mpg's, you might aswell get 35's.
and it also depends on what year truck your getting.
skyjacker made a 6 inch kit for 83-97 rangers, but no other years. superlift makes a 4 inch lift for everything 98+, rcd made a 5.5 kit for everything 98+, and fabtech and camburg make 5.5 kits for 98+ aswell.

yea there is a thing known as too much lift..if you go too high youll look like a total bro (doucher) unless you will actually use it...but id say go with a BL first then if you want more go from there

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
Some info would help, what year, model Ranger are you looking to get? If you go 4x4, you're already going to be higher than the 4x2.
If you are worried about mpg, you're probably also not looking to spend a bit of money on a lift. In that case, a 3" body lift and 33's are going to be your cheapest route. I'm running that combination now and averaging about 18mpg.

So, do yall think think that 9 inches would be too much.
Would 6 inches seem more reasonable?
thx

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
9 inches would look retarted and youd have to do a sas conversion i believe..but 6 inches is a lil too tall for me butif you had the right wheel and tire combo it should look good and if you want an idea of how it should look at fx4wannabe01's ranger, kosmo04's, or 01RangerFX4's that should give you an idea of what a 3" bl + a 4" superlift will look!

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
Hey man, I got a 4 inch suspension lift with a 3inch body lift, I run 33's and trust me it sucks up the gas! It looks great, I love it but the mpg's blow. I found some fuel additive that helps alot better than I thought but still, the 4.0 combined with the 33's suck gas. I drive 62 miles one way to work, round trip is almost a whole tank of gas without the additive. Luckily it's not my daily driver!!

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
If you are actually looking to wheel it then you are better off not going way higher than needed. If you look at the Jeep forums alot of the guys are really big on LCOG (low center of gravity) setups because the vehicle will be more stable and less likely to flip on you when you are going at some really gnarly stuff. I personally think it looks retarded when I see huge lifted trucks with wheels that are way smaller than intended for their setup. But in the end its your ride and make it look as awesome or as weird as you want/like.

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
What year is it? A pre-91 with a six-inch lift and 33s would be bitchin'. Not sure what you'd do about rubbing in the front (or if there would be any), but stock height my sister's 1990 can take 29s... And yes, there is such a thing as too much lift.

Re: Is there such a thing as too much lift?
jack it up 10 inches and throw some 38s on it and it will look sick 6 in suspension and 3 in body will work and look good just not with 33s

If you rip a whole in your croch whilte climbing up into your truck, then maybe there might be too much lift.
