Default 3in body lift with manual trans issue

I'm a noob here!
1998 Mazda B2500 5 speed

I installed a 3in body lift but I'm having issues with the shifter not lining up in the same place it was with the cup holder. If I go to 2nd or 4th it will hit the cup holder. So at this moment I've took it out. So my question is what type of mod have you guys done to prevent this from happening. Has anyone else had this issue?

Purely a shot in the dark here: But did you purchase the shift extension?

IIRC - It's performance accessories part #3700.

From what I hear, body lifts need a shifter extension... did you install one?

I did read about the Extension but I figured because I have a browning pistol grip shifter that's about 4-5in long it wouldn't be a issue. Using the extension would be simply doing the same thing right?

----------

Ok not my brightest moment of thought for the extension. Just found this. This is Performance Accessories part number 3700 - Shift Extension. The 3700 is designed for use on Ford Ranger and Mazda B series trucks equipped with a manual transmission. Please note, this extension is designed for use with Mazda built transmissions only. Please note that in many cases Mazda supplies the manual transmission used in many Ford Ranger trucks. This # 3700 extension is designed to relocate the shifter to the original factory position to allow for easier shifting and correct hand to shifter positioning after a 2" or 3" body lift has been installed.

Your shift handle does nothing to extend your shifter. You need to extend it at the base to clear the transmission tunnel. This is what the extension from PA does. Buy it, install it, and you'll be able to reinstall the factory shift boot and cupholders.
