Default 2009 Ranger Lift Kit Removal Questions

Don't know much about trucks so I'm going off of what others have told me. I have a 2 inch body lift kit on my 2009 ranger that I need to remove to pass a safety inspection (not a suspension lift). After FINALLY finding a shop that would actually do it, they quoted me at about $1200 ($430 for parts, the rest in labor). They said I would need the original bolts to connect the body with the frame again (makes sense) and a new insulator (not sure exactly what that is). My main question is, am I getting ripped off? I can't imagine those parts cost that much, plus 7-10 man hours is what they said it would take. Is it really that big of a job? And what's the deal with that insulator? Do I really need that?

Labor is probably right in line with where it should be. It's not a 'technical' type install..but it is time consuming.

As far as parts go...seems a bit high (body lift in the first place runs about $200 for the parts) - but they are probably just going off book OEM stuff.

Long story short is if you don't like it you only have a few options...tackle it yourself - or find another shop to quote it.

It must be a custom kit because no one makes a 2" body lift for 98+ Rangers. Unless its ghetto-rigged it shouldn't have to be replaced.

x2

The guy who purchased my truck is from there & I heard he had some initial inspection "issues" even though it was perfect.

Are 'real-deal' body lifts not allowed in MA?

My mistake, it's a 3" lift. I'm assuming that doesn't change much in regards to my question. And unfortunately I have to get rid of it, because in the state of Maine you can't have any lift whatsoever on a truck with ABS

I live in MA, but registered my truck in ME (parents live there and im a student), and in ME, no lifts allowed with ABS.

Hell, if that is the case - I would look into if they will still "allow you" to move somewhere freedom is still a thing...lol

X2.

I would imagine it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to just transfer the registration to MA. Plus you'd still have a lift.

Suspension lift are the only way to lift a truck in Maine. Body lifts on ABS vehicles is forbidden. Didn't find the exact law, but that is mentioned quite often.

Section 10, Suspension, chapter J, vehicle heights, sub chapter 8 of http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/vehicle...-29-13_000.pdf

Quote:
Body lifts are permitted on any vehicle that is not equipped
with an anti-lock braking system, provided that they are
manufactured by an after market manufacturer, are designed
for the make and model vehicle on which they are installed,
and the kit is installed according to the manufacturer’s
recommendations. Body lifts may not use more than a three inch
spacer.

Hell for that price u could spend a little bit more and get a superlift and save the cash if u tackle it yourself. That is if your up to it and it's not your DD.
