2008 2wd front end spindle lift help please
Doing the lift over the next few days... write up to follow.
From stock to... FRONT...4" spindles, new bearings, rotors and pads, bilstein shocks, moog lower ball.
REAR.... 91-01 Explorer leaf packs, 1-2" shackles, billstein ranger lift shocks, new eye bolts and u bolts.
Any how....
My questions.
1. With spindles, the brake dust sheild thingy is eliminated, correct?
2.Regarding new inner and outer bearings (front), I need to buy new seals? I thought somehow they would come with the bearings or rotors? I have no intention of using any of the removed parts. Also... the washer, retainer nut and cap act as the seal up front?
The bearings have me a lil bugged.... wanna do it right.
Once lift is done, i'm rockin a 2000 mile roadtrip to the west coast. Being freaky cautious.
Thanks everyone.

Yes I believe the dust shield is no longer used.
You will have to buy the seals as well. I have never gotten seals with new bearings or rotors.
No seal is required in the front. Its just the dust cap

Brake shield - trash. Don't need it anyways.
There's an inner seal that must be tapped in the rotor with a mallet but usually auto parts stores include these when you ask for new inner bearings.
If you're replacing the rotors you'll need 2 new inner seals (one for each side) inner bearings (x2) outer bearings (x2) and a can of grease. The grease cap acts as an "outer seal" to protect from the elements.
We have an installation thread for lift spindles and for replacing bearings/rotors.
Rotor/bearing installation:
How To: Replace Wheel Bearings 2wd
Lift spindle installation:
How To: 3" Doetsch Spindle Install
Also just to clarify. These are the torque specs (from Ford) on the spindle nut. This is very important.
Torque to 18 lb-ft
Spin rotor to seat bearings
Back nut off
Hand tighten
Torque to 22-25 INCH-LB (not LB-FT) that's Inches.
You can also substitute the last step with a 1/16 turn of the nut, for example:
My ratchet has 30 clicks. I tighten it 2 clicks with a 27 mm socket. 30/2 = 15 which should be just perfect.

Did you disconnect the sway bar? I did my gf's truck a few weeks ago and that's the few things I didn't have a problem with

Have not disconnected the sway bar... hoped to leave that alone. You think disconnection would allow me to close that gap?
Super thanks for the response man!!

Id try disconnecting the sway bar. Should allow for a little freer movement of the LCA.
Supporting the LCA and tapping the UCA/balljoint down into the spindle with a hammer/mallet might help as well. (I had to do this on mine.).

Disconnect the sway bar and put a ratchet strap to the lower, around the upper and back to the lower. Smack the upper with a hammer, click the ratchet, smack with a hammer, click ratchet, repeat. Should get it together no problem.

Re: 2008 2wd front end spindle lift help please
Indeed Tyler.... was thinkin the ratchet strap route....
Bilstein 4600 front shock.... how the fork do I stop the top from spinning? Oe shock had a flat spot...
4600 threaded all the way to the top....I'm sure there is a simple answer but it still eludes me....
Regarding the gap.... turns out I wasn't puttin enough chutspah into it... the ratchet will likely get that last 1/2".
Again guys....
THE HELP AND INSIGHT IS GREATLY APRECIATED!!!! :

This. Just unbolt it from the LCA and leave the bar itself connected to the frame. Should really only need to do one side.
