Default Pre-lift Questions 1997 Ranger 2wd

Hey guys,

Couple questions. Since going to 235/75/15's in place of my 225/70/14's I've been thinking about putting in a small lift (it is only 2wd w/ open diff). I don't wheel my truck but I do use it like a truck. Meaning it gets worked and occasionally used off pavement. I'm not worried about getting articulation or wheel travel, just aesthetics. However, I'm not looking to make a mess and I want to do it right. What I've decided I want to do is put leveling springs in the front and an add a leaf kit in the back. Now here are my questions:

-Will I change the steering geometry enough that I need to make adjustments? Brake lines?
-Am I going eat my ball joints? Wheel bearings? Other assorted front end parts?
-Can I use the stock shocks? Shock extenders?
-Alignment?
-Can I reuse my old U-bolts?

Sorry for so many questions but the websites selling this stuff will let you believe you just pop it in "yer good ta go with no adjustments!" as well as "there's no such thing as stuck bolts everything pops right out!". In my own research I've come across people just pop it in. Some it works out for others it does not. So I figured I'd ask you guys.
Thanks

i suggest a 3 inch spindle lift with 2 inch stock blocks

you wont have to worry about geometry and ball joints, and ive always been told that if you release the pressure on the ubolts then you need to change the because theyve already been tightened and stretched

I don't think I can use a spindle lift. Pretty sure I'm TIB setup

Correct, you cannot do a spindle lift. You can buy some 1.5 coils but from what I've read, any higher than that will make your alignment un-adjustable to specs because of your wonderful I-Beam design.

Rough Country makes a good 4 inch drop bracket kit that comes with everything you need. IIRC it only costs like $440. I think it would be much better than trying to piece together the whole thing.

I didn't even think of that. But it makes sense considering what it's doing. Dammit. LOL.

And I kinda don't want to go 4 inches... I'd be looking at wheels again LOL

Honestly a 4 inch lift is not very much. I would run a 4 inch lift on 235's or 30's.

Here's the kit:

http://www.roughcountry.com/ford-sus...FZSBfgodaDUJjA

That comes with coil springs, shocks, blocks, u-bolts, assorted drop brackets and the correct steering hardware.

Not true. I have the 4 inch rough country kit on my 97 2wd. With 31s I'm going to a 33 and my alignment is dead on. I would suggest longer brake lines in the front as well as sway bar end links instead of the drop brackets. Mine was $600 to the door. Including all the accessories as well as steering stabilizer

Yeah I meant just throwing some ~ 4 inch coils in and calling it a day.

Yours came with beam drop brackets correct?

Yes. The rough country 4 inch drop brackets are good for up to 6 inch lift coils

Got an add a leaf in the back of mine and a block under the spring (designed to fit perfectly) on eaby for around $100, Got an alignment and 9/10 times it can be done but mine couldn't with out larger camber bolt things (40$ each) but the 2wd might be a bit different, but from what I've seen its pretty similar to the ttb/tib suspensions. Shocks and brake lines are fine with 2" or less of lift. Alignment should be invested in, especially if driving at high speeds and tires will wear really uneven. Reuse ubolts, well I did, but lot of people say no. I just ziped everything off with the impact and it came easy so I red loctited it when I put it back together. All done 2" lift for under $300 including alignment ect. Only problem I have had is one on the leafs keeps spinning sideways as the little holder isn't tall enough to hold it, but a u bolt or some zip ties fix that

Best thing about tib trucks is ground clearance. Worst part is they kill insides of tires. Doesn't matter will always do if

I'm looking at 1.5 inch leveling springs to clarify, is anyone running them? will you be able to get it aligned?
