Default T-bars

I am looking for some help with cranking my T-bars when I get back to the states in Sept! I will also be throwing in some 2" blocks in the rear and 2" body lift. Help is always a plus since this is the first time doing this. I also have an Expedition same year and was wondering if anyone knew if this can be done with it as well!

Measure the truck's current ride height.

Jack up the front end.

Find your control arms up front, follow the rods back to where they stop. There's a bolt running through a key and up to the torsion bars.

I'm pretty sure it's a 14 MM or something near that and metric.

Tighten. Shoot for equal amounts of turn unless you're compensating for droop or gas tank/driver weight etc.

Bring the truck down.

Measure the difference in ride height. Don't push 2".

LittleBigFoot wrote it out pretty well. Here is a picture of the bolt you need to crank:

There seems to be a never ending debate about if an alignment is needed after a t-bar crank, so you may want to consider getting one just to be safe.

I've heard that cranking Torsen Bars are bad news, is this true? I've been debating on cranking mine. I have the 31x10.50's stock and I'm wanting to put on the 33x12.50's without killing my bank account and safely enhancing my truck. Can anyone shed some light?

I wouldn't put 33x12.50s on a stock suspension. 32x11.50 or 33x10.50 would be the optimal choice. Yeah, cranking your torsion bars will result in more wear and tear, add in bigger tires, and yes you should be ready for some periodic upkeep.

A SLA D35 can take more abuse then people give it credit for.

I ran 35x15.5s. Yes that's 15.5" wide. I put about 10,000 hard miles on the front end, rhompin the hell out of it in the Colorado wilderness.

When I gutted the IFS my wheelbearings were fine, never blew up hubs, my ring and pinion were un marred, never cracked a knuckle, never bent a control arm, never busted a CV axle, never roasted a driveshaft, nothin.

The suspension's not a problem. The rear end isn't a problem. It's gearing and power that are the problem.

with t bars it is important to remember that they are basically replacing the spring the more you crank on it the more stress you are putting on the spring, if you over crank it to achieve lift you run the risk of snapping the bar(your basically twisting metal) and with any metal if you take it out of its designed comfort zone you may have problems, you dont need an alignment after a torsion bar modification because tires are part of your unsprung weight and therfore do not affect alignement angles, if you have ever broken a t-bar then you have also shit your pants as it makes one hell of a noise and drops the truck on its face, just be careful out there

I have my bars twisted about 1.5". Tires are wearing normal and the ride quality is about the same.

I only plan on cranking the t-bar about 2", no more, I have heard bad things about taking it above 2".

I didn't know you could crank them more than 2". I thought that was about the max, unless you got re-indexed torsion keys, which are even worse.
