Lift question
I recently purchased a 2001 Ranger with a lift kit already installed. It has a 3 inch block on the rear. How can I determine the amount of lift on the front?

First of all welcome to the site. Second, you can edit your signature under the user CP menu at the top left of this page so that we can know what kind of truck you have.
Are you 2wd or 4wd? Edge or XLT?

2wd Edge or 2wd XLT?
If you are an edge with torsion bars it could have 3" lift spindles up front and possibly cranked torsion bars.
If it is an xlt with coils, then it could have coil spacers, new lift coils, 3" spindles or a combination of those.

It is an xlt. Is there any way of determining the amount of lift so I can purchase the correct shocks?

Yes...It is hard for me to guess without seeing a picture of the truck or suspension though.
Is the coil blue or does it look newer than the other parts on the truck? Is the spindle rusted or does it look like it may have been painted? Is the upper arm tube? Are there any brands on any of the parts?
If you have 3" blocks in the back and no add a leafs in the back, I'd say its safe to say you have spindles in the front.

i'm gonna guess that if you have 3" block in the back and its leveled that its a 5" lift. But thats if you don't have a stock block in there?

Take your truck, take the shocks off,
Try and drive it up something that will make it "flex" See if you can push it till you get a tire off the ground. Measure the side that's stuffed and the side that's at droop, front and rear. Measure again your total length on flat ground.
Take these measurements to Advanced Auto or your friendly neighborhood part store and look through their catalogues to see what fits your need.

Shocks are the biggest joke unless you're going to be pushin high speeds in the desert.
I'm running ranger rear's in the front. 26" fully expanded, 14 compressed. They max out really easily but they're fine for the road cause i'm a cheap bastard.
If you're runnin lifted TTB i'm willing to bet you won't need more then 12" of travel
