Every vehicle I've ever driven was this way. 3-5mph over, so I just go by the GPS. It says 79 when my speedo shows 83.

I've gotten one speeding ticket. 35 in a 25, in the company truck. 250 miles from home with one more job to go at 9pm. I was in a hurry. Worst part about it is that there were oil field trucks doing twice that in front of me and he waited for me to go by before he pulled out. I found out later that several other techs had gotten parking and speeding tickets from that same cop. I guess he doesn't like Dish Network. lol.

I can't understand why you guys would go 80 in a 45 and not expect to get caught. lol. The only time I ever sped on purpose was driving to Great Falls. Roughly 6 hours away, and I did it in 4 1/2 in a Dodge Neon. Not a single cop on that road anywhere.

I've heard that rarely are speedometers dead on but to make a generalization that "all ford's show faster", I find hard to believe -- especially 3 - 5 mph.

Edit: I checked into this and found an article that was very helpful, and two points I found interesting. The first is that by law speedometers set at 50 mph can not be off by more than 5 mph in either direction. The second is that Car and Driver Magazine did a study of 200 cars, and what they found at 70 mph was that the speedometers were off in favor of the drivers (meaning the speed was actually slower than the speedometer read and not faster) and off by only 1.37 mph. The article can be seen at http://www.ehow.com/info_12209329_ac...edometers.html

It's how they are calibrated from factory.... I've been in many fords, and all are the exact same way. Speedo speed vs GPS speed. Fords are 3-5 MPH fast. As are a few other random vehicles I've compare it to.

A thought occurred and maybe it is the rounding due to the difference in miles vs. kilometers, for example 1 m = 1.6 km.

How do you know that the radar gun inside those curbside "info-traps" are correct? I have driven a lot of Ford's but other brands also, and I've never ran into an issue with speed. Nor is it common knowledge that "Ford's have issues with speedometers".

because i have driven two other vehicles consistently through that area and they have read accurate. one was a mazda car and the other was a subaru legacy. Its debatable that fords read quick thts just my own experience driving around town

I opened the thread fully thinking that this was going to be another one of those, I am glad I was disappointed.

I remember the last one was a kid going like 30 over and whining about it, then the shit storm came, lol. That one was fun.

Both of my Rangers read about 2 mph fast and the CR-V about 3 mph fast. I got bigger tires on the CR-V to correct that and to get a little more lift. Now, it's pretty much dead on. It seems most vehicle manufacturer's have their speedometers read a little fast. Probably to minimize lawsuits in this suit happy society.

I have yet to drive a vehicle that had a speedo show less than 3mph faster than I was going. I set my cruise when my GPS shows 79 (speed limit is 75), and I've never had an issue. My speedo usually shows about 82-84 depending on the vehicle. I drive Fords and Chevys and they're all like that. Dodge I can't speak for, since I won't set foot in one.
