2. reduction in standing armies--> obama has shown he is in favor in reduction of armies worldwide

so he has met nobels criteria for the peace prize. it does not say anything about domestic politics. sure there are people in america that dont like him, but many more people around the world do like him.
theres your answer to why i think he won the nobel prize, right next to the criteria

exactly.

I want new automotive technology, world peace, and insightful writing... does that mean I should be awarded the Nobel prize in physics, peace, and literature?

...also, who can spot me round trip airfare so that I can go pick up my awards?

And you contradicted your reasoning with your own reasoning. In your sparknotes, it says he has to do those things in the preceeding year. He did none of that in the preceeding year. Maybe you're confused about what preceeding means. It means the PREVIOUS YEAR. When he wasn't president.

So, I'm still waiting for you to explain how he managed to get an award for something he didn't do. But you'll probably just repeat the same thing again and ignore that it contradicts your own claims.

It's because he's the first black president. Talk about me all you want but it's the truth. Obama admitted to using cocaine when he was young, so don't bring it up about bush like it makes him worse for doing it than it makes obama for doing it.

When did Bush admit to using cocaine?

Quote:
Bush has refused to discuss speculation that he has used illegal drugs, but has said that when his father became president in 1989 and required White House employees to affirm that they had not used illegal drugs for 15 years, he would have passed that test.[13][14]

A conversation between Bush and an old friend, author Doug Wead, touched on the subject of use of illegal drugs. In the taped recording of the conversation, Bush explained his refusal to answer questions about whether he had used marijuana at some time in his past. “I wouldn’t answer the dope questions,” Bush says. “You know why? Because I don’t want some little kid doing what I tried.”[15] When Wead reminded Bush of his earlier public denial of using cocaine, Bush replied, "I haven't denied anything."[16]

In 1999, St. Martin's Press published a book[17] stating that Bush had been arrested for cocaine possession and that the record had been expunged. The publisher said at the time that the book had been "carefully fact-checked and scrutinized by lawyers," but soon afterward recalled it and pulped all copies after it came to light that author James Hatfield had been convicted in 1988 of attempted murder and in 1992 of embezzlement, had spent five years in prison, and had falsely claimed that his vanity novel about James Bond was authorized by the copyright holder.[18]

In February 2004, Eric Boehlert in Salon magazine reported that Bush's cessation of flying in April 1972 and his subsequent refusal to take a physical examination came at the same time the Air Force announced a Medical Service Drug Abuse Testing Program, which, he wrote, was officially launched on April 21, 1972. He added that while the drug testing took years to implement, "as of April 1972, Air National guardsmen knew random drug testing was going to be implemented.
also got a DUI

On September 4, 1976 (age 30), Bush was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his family's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. He admitted his guilt, was fined US$150, and had his driving license in the state suspended for two years, although the White House had claimed 30 days.[3] This incident did not become public knowledge until it was reported by Erin Fehlau of Maine FOX affiliate WPXT-TV in the week before the 2000 election.[4]

At least he paid for his mistake. Unlike Kennedy who killed someone and got off with nothing.

ok,
heres what has been in the news:
-iran and north korea have agreed to talk about their nuclear programs, a step in the right direction
-china and the US will come out with plans on how they wish to confront climate change at next months COP-15
-the US is beginning to show leadership in environmental policies, beginning to shift subsidies from bad technology to green technology..ie, by my house, Florida Atlantic University has recieved $13.5 million for research and development of ocean current turbines and their potential 10 Gigawatts of power to be supplied to Florida
-the UN, and all of its members, are drawing up plans for more commitment of troops to Afghanistan, each nation is considering what they can provide to better stabilize the region
-obama has already cancelled probably the biggest waste of military spending, the f-22 program, and replaced it with a more versatile, better equipped, and joint-country fighter, the f-35
-he is closing Guantanamo Bay Detainment Camp, because the US does not torture anymore, the US will actually raise itself above the level of our enemies by abiding by our own moral laws

What part of PRECEDING YEAR do you not comprehend?

Really, did he do that in his first week as president?? And also today their "talk" was pushing forward with nuclear programs in defiance of the rest of the world. Perhaps you should read the news, not just look at a headline and make up your own version. Not that it has any bearing on this award anyway.

Next month? Hello??? PRECEDING YEAR... Next Month. Preceding year.... Next month. Hmmmmm. You shot your own argument down AGAIN.

Beginning to show leadership.... meaning it wasn't when he won the award. Since it couldn't have been. Since he didn't exist.

Drawing up plans... also nothing that he had anything to do with when he won the award. Try again.

After he won the award. Again, what does this have to do with him winning an award? Does the committee have a time machine??

He has not, is not, and will not anytime soon be doing that since he has yet to come up with a plan. It is an idea and nothing more. Last I checked, he didn't close Gitmo in his first week as president when he won the award.

Next? Do you plan to come up with a response that is valid sometime today?? I can do this all night since you make it so easy.

he definitely told the world about these intentions before he became president, which is in the preceding year. the fact that these things are happening only strengthens the decision.
and for the record, so you dont say it was a plan and he didnt actually DO them before he was awarded, others have gotten the peace prize for less: oscar arias sanchez received it for his plan for peace in central america
yasser arafat got it for shaking hands with israelis

an action is always preceded by an intention,
i dont get why your having such a hard time grasping the concept. he told the world what he intended to do..aka, a plan.. the peace prize HAS been awarded to people with plans.. so why not Obama?
and i didnt bring this up, if you dont understand why he was chosen watch the video of the committee member explaining their exact reason. its not your place to decide if he should or shouldnt get the award, nor is it his. he never once said he deserved the award, despite all the work he's done.
