Too bad I've never been arrested, or even detained by any member of law enforcement. I abide by the law, but disagree with the excessive use of force that cops display on a regular basis. Maybe one day when you witness excessive force first hand like I have, you'll understand why I feel the way I do.

There are good cops out there, but don't sit here and act like all cops are angels.

I agree that some cops do use excessive force. But once again it all boils down to not breaking the law. Don't draw attention to yourself and there will be no problems. 99% of the population never causes any trouble with the police. It's that 1% of the population that pushes the envelope and brings out the worst from the cops.

I've never had a bad experience with law-enforcement. But I'm also polite, and always respectful and never give them a hard time. Even if I feel they're in the wrong. That goes along way.

There are bad cops out there, but the majority of them are good. Imo. Just about everyone of these stories you hear on the news, it ends up the "victim" had a criminal past.

Personally I am not a huge fan of most LEO's. I acknowledge that they have a place, and a difficult job. But the increased militarization of most police forces worries me. Also I feel that the kind of person that most gravitates to law enforcement work is exactly the kind of person that should never be given that kind of power. And around here at least, they are very well payed.

Don't break the law or disrespect laws. Shun the Napolean Syndrome. Do unto others as you would have done to you.

This. Common sense has been lost in our society.

I gravitated towards law enforcement because I wanted to help people, not power trip. It's not about having power and just carrying a gun, driving fast and hooking and booking. I do agree that some officers and departments are like that, but that is a dying breed.

Having the public's trust and working with them instead of against them goes a long way. I have learned that being proactive and talking with people solves more problems than just citing or arresting them. Sometimes people do need to be cited or arrested, but no matter what, they deserve to be treated with respect. No need to go down to their level, demean them or show your power.

Believe me, cops do not want to use force. That just adds a ton of more paperwork for them. They want resolve the situation as simple and as peaceful as they can. People need to open their eyes and understand that.

Cops are humans too, they make mistakes just like the rest of us.
