Studies also show that the mechanical brakes make much less noise than the engine brake. So stop being arrogant and save the engine brakes for the interstate where they were designed to be used.

Well, yeah. But, I don't like loud jakes anymore than the concerned citizens. "Billy Big Rigger" is slang, basically, a driver that most of us think as an idiot. You know, the fingerless gloves, the loud ass truck, and been every where done everything in the six months he's been a driver.
My jakes are very quiet, the way they came stock. I still shut them off if I'm in an area that restricts them, even though you'd be hard pressed to think they're loud. But, I will say, if I'm running down hill on a steep grade, fully loaded [that's up to 160,000lbs], I will use them, in conjunction with the service brakes.
No, I'm not being arrogant, just trying not to overheat my wheel brakes so I don't take out Jack and Jill at the bottom of the hill.
There's no need to shake the windows and rattle the walls, those *******es that do, have made it bad on all of us. They've likely all got microscopic cranks, and have some sort of identity problem. I'm NOT one of them.
And really, who needs a study to show that wheel brakes are quieter. Maybe whoever did that study needs to get a life.
